Dr. Christopher Matthew Sobey, MD

Dr. Sobey planted a spinal cord stimulator because a had a traumatic spinal cord injury. My wife and I drove 125 miles each way from Alabama. TMy first appointment with him he told me that I needed a COVID 19 tests which I performed in a lab in the same building as Dr. Sobey. Of note I had a negative COVID in Alabama 5 days before my appointment with Sobey. He said that I must have a COVID test performed at the lab at Vanderbilt before he would see me for an appointment with him. It's common knowledge that there were and are rapid COVID 19 tests that give results from 15-30 minutes. However for some unknown reason he wouldn't order the rapid COVID test. My wife and I had to drive back to Alabama. I was scheduled to see him 2 weeks later.y wife and I drove back to Sobey. With a smirk on his face he told us that the results of my test were lost. He had me tested again and wife and I had to drive back home and come back in 10 days. Before we drove all the way back I contacted the lab in… Tennessee and was assured my COVID 19 test was negative. Dr. Sobey was keenly aware that I suffered a spinal cord injury and had myelomacia from C3-7 and during a routine thoracic surgery I woke up in recovery paralyzed from my waist down with zero sensation. It was a combination spinal cord injury and as a result developed myelomacia from T6-9 Dr. Sobey placed 2 long leads with the spinal cord stimulation. It provided me with a 60% decrease in my pain which I was content with. Sobey told my wife and me that those 2 long leads were just temporary and he took them out after 6 weeks. He then placed 2 short leads that migrated and I had no pain relief at all. My wife and asked him why he didn't just leave the 2 long leads in? His response was I wanted to see how much the long leads would decrease my pain.. Because the short.leads migrated far away that he wanted to place two long leads back. To my disbelief he only placed 1 long leads. He said only placed 1.because I had too much scare tissue. Before I became paralyzed I practiced medicine for 35 years and my specialties were pain management, and internal medicine. There's no doubt in my mind that his repeated and unnecessary procedures were the direct cause of my scar tissue.. Dr. Sobey told us that he was very confident he could put two short leads precisely where they needed to be and they were very unlikely to migrate. When I awakened he told my wife and me that he unable to place 1 short lead because there too much scar tissue. Within 24 hours the lead migrated so much that I felt the stimulation on the bottom of my left foot. Shortly after that I was scheduled to have a series of MRIs. One can't have an MRI unless the settings on the spinal cord stimulator had the settings changed. I attempted to change the settings only to find that the battery was dead. My wife and I had to drive 250 miles round trip to had my spinal cord to surgically removed. As a result I have a very large solid painful lesion on my back Additionally, my wife and I found Dr. Sobey to be dismissive, condescending. I certainly don't want others to have an experience like mine thus I urge others to steer clear.
