Dr. Christopher B Ticknor, MD

Dr Ticknor treated me for severe clinical depression and helped me recover I had seen two physicians in Austin but was not making much progress. My medications we're changed by Dr Ticknor and within 2 weeks I could tell a significant difference and within 4 weeks I was functioning much better. He is an excellent diagnostician and listened well to my medical history and concerns such as poor sleep, no motivation, and anxiety. I followed his recommendation and worked with a counselor for a period of time which greatly helped. As a medical professional myself, I caution others to choose their physicians carefully and be sure there is a high level of trust between themselves and their physicians/counselors. I am thankful for Dr Ticknors's care and am living a productive life

I agree....anyone who has problems with this man must be NUTS! This is one of the most brilliant men I have ever known! If you have a problem....spend the $$$$ and see him! He will peg your problem within 5 minutes!

Arrogant, thinks he is a savior of some sort. Ego gets in the way of doing his job.

Very poor psychiatrist. I went to him several times and just got medications thrown at me without any evidence to prove that I needed that particular med. if you want to find results quickly and efficiently, this IS NOT your preferrable psychiatrist

I moved to SA from Boston for work a few years ago and tried 2 other not very helpful shrinks before getting a referral to Dr. Ticknor from my new family doc, Dr. Rodriguez, who said Dr. T is the "smartest, most normal psychiatrist you'll ever meet." I think he is right. It took me about 4 weeks to get a first appt, but no delays in scheduling follow-ups. Their ofc doesn't accept insurances which is ok because my deductible for any mental health is now about $4000 thanks in no part to Obamacare (used to be $1500). Dr. T is careful, non judgmental, helped me understand my diagnosis and was worth every dollar. He knows lots about medicines and has given me good advice about my marriage and kids too. He's cheerful and so is Karen, his secretary. When I needed couples counseling, he referred me to a really good psychologist. Noticed 2 reviews below that didn't like him. Hate to say it, but they must be seriously nuts. Highly recommend him.

Have been a patient for about 2 years. He treats my depression and sleep problems. Also my drinking was an issue. Dr. Ticknor is really helpful, available and got my Meds perfectly balanced. You can tell he really likes people and likes his work. Has a good sense of humor too. Always takes his time. Casual guy but professional. Easy to confide in. I've referred several friends to him. They all say it's been helpful. I told him he can't ever retire !

Worst psychiatrist I have ever seen. Paid 375$ ( insurance does not cover psychiatry ) for 40 minutes for NOTHING. I asked for a referral for a cognitive psychotherapist only to be told "it is better to find one yourself" -- If I had been able to find one I would not be at his office! I told him but he did not seem to care. Flushing dollar bills down the toilette would have been a better use of my time. ps - if zero stars were an option he would get ZERO!

False diagnosis...over a quarter century of brain damaging junk chemicals

I went to Dr. Ticknor after many failed attempts over several years to be accurately diagnosed & treated by my regular family doctor. While I did have to wait longer than I would have liked for my initial appointment (over a month), I could not have been happier with my experience. Dr. Ticknor was warm, friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely seemed to care about me getting an accurate & effective diagnosis. He gave me all the time I needed to describe the problems, ask questions, and have everything explained to me....I didn't feel rushed at all. His diagnosis & treatment has been spot on, and I haven't felt this good in a long time. I would highly recommend Dr. Ticknor to anyone needing psychiatric services.

It's like pulling eye teeth to reach this doctor.
