Dr. Christopher Harris Vlasses, MD

During my 22 month old daughter's hospitalization for dehydration, Dr. Vlasses was the main doctor overseeing my child. What I like about this doctor is that he was a great communicator and good listener. He had taken the time to sit down and explain things in detail with me about my daughter's illness. Even though, we would have our disagreements on certain things about my child's in care I.V. treatments and her overall condition, I felt mostly confident in his advice. What I did not like is that this is a doctor who will take every measure to get you trust in his medical theories. However, this doctor needs to pay more attention to the parents concerns of their child's safety. While my daughter was being treated at Children's Hospital (Sutter Branch) her feet had began to swell up and feel very tight; my reaction was a simple request to have them stop the I.V. fluids and when they refused (the nurse staff and doctor), I had stopped the fluids myself. After wards, I was… criticized and lectured for it by Dr. Vlasses. He had also threatened that if it happens again, that the hospital can force me to leave while my child remain being treated their. I did not appreciate that remark at all; moreover, this is where I believe we have become disconnected. One final measure that I do think could have been focused on before my child was discharged was for them to have her sodium level tested.
