Dr. Clark Michael Kardys, MD

I had a seton placement surgery with Dr. Kardy, which initially seemed like a success. However, the post-surgery care is just as important as the procedure itself, especially since it's a two-part surgery. Unfortunately, I ended up in debilitating pain for two weeks, with salt baths being the only thing that provided any relief. The doctor's office did a poor job of monitoring my symptoms after surgery. I called four times requesting stronger pain medication because ibuprofen wasn't effective. Reaching the doctor was extremely difficult, and getting in touch with his medical assistant (MA) was even harder. There was no clear way to communicate with him, and the messages I left with the answering service were never returned. When I finally managed to get in touch with a new MA, I was informed that the regular MA was on medical leave. Instead of addressing my urgent need for pain relief, the new MA suggested I wait until my scheduled follow-up appointment to speak with Dr. Kardy. At… that point, my pain was so severe that I was considering going to the ER for proper medication. Because of this lack of care and communication, I chose not to proceed with the second part of the surgery and decided to remove the seton on my own. I believe there should be a better system in place, including a clear second-in-command or follow-up protocol. I had no way to reach my surgeon when I needed help the most. The medical field often seems to lack an understanding of how pain impacts quality of life. While Dr. Kardy was quick to recommend another surgery, I am now seeking care from a different doctor because I want a better recovery experience. I’m writing this not only for others considering this doctor but also in the hope that his office improves its patient care. Surgeries should not be performed without adequate follow-up care, and patients should not be left to suffer without proper support.

This doctor misdiagnosed my husband. I had to call them several times just to get results of a CT scan. Never heard from the doctor himself until we said we needed a better explanation and wanted to speak with him. The condition worsened and they would not accommodate us. Thank goodness they didn’t. We ended up going to a colon and rectal surgeon I had seen before. He saw us right away and did surgery the next day. I do not recommend Dr. Kardys.
