Please review his complications and malpractice suits. Operates on every patient. Do not see him.

I would give 0 stars if I could. Dr. Dean does NOT listen to his patient, does not check their history or medical conditions, and believes that he shouldn't have to be questioned or explain anything. His behavior was actually negligent, in my opinion, because he operated on me when my liver enzymes were high. (I did not see my blood test results prior to surgery or I would have postponed it.) Who wants to overtax their liver with anesthesia and pain medication! I have Fibromyalgia and he did not inform me that my pain would be much worse following my surgery because of the nerves being disturbed during surgery. The PA's told me this when I called after my procedure! My holidays last year were ruined because I could hardly do a thing. I, like another patient who reviewed here, was told a two week recovery period when in actual fact it was nearly 6 months until I felt reasonable. Furthermore, Dr. Dean actually stormed out of the pre-op room because I didn't immediately sign the… Consent for Proceure form and wanted to read it. I had to ask my questions of the nurse/technician. She apologized for Dr. Dean. I should have just left at that point because I would have been better off. My experience is that Dr. Dean tells lies. He told me I would only be in the hospital overnight. In fact, the hospital expected me to stay 2 days. I won't go any further with this except to say that anyone considering Dr. Dean should get a second opinion!! If you have ANY underlying conditions, do not use this surgeon.

I went to Dr. Dean and he looked at my MRI and suggested spinal fusion surgery. He was going to put two rods between L-4 and L-5. He told me I would feel well enough to go back to work after 2 weeks and be pain free after 6 weeks. This was not true. It is 6 months later and I still can’t walk and have bad back and leg pain. When I saw him 8 weeks later for a post op visit, he said my leg pain had nothing to do with the surgery he did. He was rude, dismissive and told me to take Lyrica. I was treated with disrespect. He did not come and see me the next day in the hospital instead he sent a flower vase with a carnation in it saying get well. I am now going to see a neurosurgeon to see if I can get some relief. The entire experience was HORRIFIC!!

Soon, I will celebrate 4 months post microdiscectomy with Dr. Clayton Dean and I couldn't be happier! He literally gave me my life back after I suffered with a significant disc herniation for almost 2 years. He put me at ease with my decision and the office staff was available to help me with any questions that I had during my recovery. Without a doubt, I would recommend Dr. Dean and the Maryland Spine Center! I did a lot of research and so glad I had my surgery with them! I owe my ability to walk again to Dr. Dean!

I saw Dr. Dean for an initial discussion of possible ways to address my progressing back and sciatic pain. He was attentive to my concerns, thoroughly answered my questions regarding possible causes and potential treatment options, and then ordered an MRI and optional PT. I look forward to receiving his input and diagnosis with the scan results. Not sure why the negative reviews. The guy’s a knowledgeable spine surgeon... not a counselor. ???????

At the recommendation of another Mercy doctor I went to Dr. Dean with lower back and leg pain. After spinal fusion surgery my leg pain is gone but my back pain is MUCH worse. When I went back to see him to let him know about the persistent pain he basically blew me off. Told me he did everything right and I should " see someone else"! Arrogant, rude and ineffective. GET A SECOND OPINION!

Came to him as a referral by a fellow physician, he had no interest in my symptoms nor did he look like he cared. Sent me off for a MRI, seen him afterwards with results and he still offered no medical advice or next course of action. A complete waste of time, better off talking to a doorknob!!!

I have great faith in Dr Dean. He and his staff give excellent care.

Major back surgery ,would not go to any other Surgeon!
