Dr. Corinne M. Linardic

We looked forward to having Dr. Linardic on rounds when my son was being treated for cancer because she was one of the attendings who always listened to our concerns with patience and kindness. In our (unfortunately vast) experience with hematology-oncology at Duke, as parents we were more often than not met with resistance, and what felt like a lack of empathy for both our son's pain and our positions as parents and caregivers to a chronically and extremely sick baby whose life was, several times, at all-too-real risk. If I had to recommend to someone whose child is undergoing treatment at Duke for cancer, Dr. Linardic would be one of the people I would name. With her, we had confidence that what needed to be done would be done and done on-time, and we never felt that we were bothering her with our many questions No matter where you are treating pediatric oncology patients, one thing remains true that is often not practiced by physicians and mid-levels (and residents and fellows): the… caregivers (parents) are, defacto, your patients, too and you need to have patience and empathy with ANY concern of theirs - this is their child's life in your hands - and you need to be able to not only explain your decisions in a matter that reflects those qualities but that also lets the parents know that you understand and appreciate their concerns, and even if you disagree, you respect their position, which is to always be in the corner of their child. Dr. Linardic is wonderful.
