Dr. Courtney Dean Borruso, DO

I was scheduled for a new patient appointment. I went into the office expecting to see Dr. Borruso, instead I was scheduled with the Nurse Practitioner. I was told that if I kept that appointment with the NP, I would never be able to be a patient of Dr. Borruso because I would be established with the NP. This was not acceptable because I was in need of a Primary Care physician. That was just the beginning of what turned into a nightmare. Who I am assuming was the Medical Assistant, came in to take my blood pressure and she used a cuff that was too large to get an accurate reading. My blood pressure normally runs high and her reading read 106/93 which caused me concern, because as I stated, mine runs high and I was full of anxiety and pain, so naturally it would be higher. I asked it to be retaken and the MA said she couldn't. I asked why? She didn't answer me. She then asked me why I wanted it to be high. I just looked at her and said "That is not what I want. I want you to… retake it because I know it is not correct." She stormed out of the room. Then a new person walked in and took it correctly. My BP was 173/95. Then The Nurse Practitioner walked in, and tried to explain my situation to her, and she proceeded to argue with me about normal blood pressure readings. I very loudly advocated for myself concerning my BP and she got upset. Dr. Borruso then came in the room and the NP was explaining the situation to her and told her that I was being aggressive towards her. I stated that I was NOT being aggressive towards her, but trying to get her to understand the importance of obtaining the correct INITIAL BP for my records as this would be the gauge they used for future visits. The NP then began crying in front of me. How unprofessional in my opinion. After Dr. Borruso escorted the NP out of the room, she returned with yet another person, telling me that she would stay in the room with her, for her protection! What? I didn't do anything wrong. Maybe got a little loud, but they were not listening to me and where arguing with me. She had the woman stand at the door like a prison guard. I said "I feel like I am in prison." and Dr Borruso got an attitude with me, but then asked the other person to sit down. The appointment went well after that. She did her exam and I left. I received a letter in the mail today, via registered mail, explaining to me that I was being terminated by the physician and the Nurse Practitioner. All because I advocated for my health. Unbelievable. I will be calling the AMA and reporting the office staff and Dr. Borruso for their behavior. From the moment I walked into the office I found the staff rude, abrasive and unwelcoming. As I already typed...it got worse from there. I suggest that she re train her staff or hire new staff. Having gone to school to become a Medical Assistance, I feel I am qualified to have a professional opinion on the matter. I would not recommend anyone to this practice.
