Dr. Craig Richard Heacock, MD

This doctor comes from a very privileged personal and educational background which, despite his friendliness, renders him out of touch with the average person. His over reliance on prescribing multiple psychiatric medications, definitely puts him in the ‘meds check’ category of mental health practitioners. I personally felt it was inappropriate when this provider would regale me with descriptive stories of some of his patients psychiatric or legal woes. It not only seemed unprofessional, but it made me feel very vulnerable as a patient. After seeing this provider for many years, I was made aware that Dr. Heacock had not been acting in my best interest, and that the medications he had been prescribing were actually causing my condition to become more acute; a fact of which he was highly aware. I continually brought this up in session, yet he dismissed my concerns. When I told him I was going to stop taking my medications, he failed to advise me of the dire consequences of going… off my medications without tapering off the dosages. As a result, I had a severe decompensation event which included a suicide attempt and lengthy hospital stay. Now, after being off all of the toxic psychiatric medications for two years, I am finally feeling better than I have in many years. My mood is finally stable and I am no longer having the devastating side effects of being inappropriately medicated by a cocktail of deadly chemicals. I used to believe in the value of getting help for mental health issues, however, this provider cured me of that notion. If I had a message for anyone considering engaging this psychiatrist, it would be to walk away and don’t look back. Your life may depend upon it.

After over fifteen years with this provider, I received the startling revelation that this provider had been systematically lying to me about absolutely every single facet of my care. Though he adamantly denied it, he knew that I was being harassed and psychologically tortured by law enforcement and told me I was delusional and paranoid for noticing it and speaking up about it. I begged this man for help and he helped me by regularly reporting to said law enforcement after each appointment and exaggerating my condition. ( It’s important to note that I had never been convicted of a crime). He prescribed medications and recommended others, that worsened my condition, and which precipitated a full blown decompensation event that included a suicide attempt and lengthy hospitalization. One of his first questions to me afterward was a hopeful “ So you still want to die though, right?” I am understandably shocked, hurt, and disillusioned by Dr. Heacock, and the entire psychiatric and… mental health community. I came to realize that I have spent 16+ years and literally tens of thousands of dollars in treatment with someone who has NEVER been honest with me. I wish I had never trusted Dr. Heacock. It literally destroyed my life.

Run as far away as you can from this provider. I made the fateful decision to seek treatment from this individual despite my misgivings. It turns out that I was correct in my original estimation of this doctor after all. This doctor, and probably most psychiatrists collude with law enforcement to eradicate certain patients whom law enforcement has targeted. This is done by prescribing inappropriate psychiatric medications, gaslighting the patient, and falsifying medical records in order to shield all involved. I would not let this provider anywhere near me or anyone I cared about. I especially would not allow this person to administer and oversee any experimental psychedelic treatment on myself or anyone I loved. It is sometimes is very easy for a vulnerable and suffering person to trust a smiling face and a friendly demeanor. Do not be fooled by or judge the competence of a mental health professional based on their level of friendliness. It is one of the many tools in their… toolbox which they use to lull their patients into a false sense of security. Psychiatrists are not your friend nor do they wish to be. Their job is to encourage the patient to feel that they can trust them so that the patient speaks freely in order for the provider to ruthlessly assess them. I would recommend a different provider who honors their oath to do no harm.

I've been seeing Dr. Heacock for a little over a decade now, on and off, first for agoraphobia and now for bipolar disorder. Dr. Heacock has been a true partner in my recovery, providing easily understandable explanations of what my brain was doing, and helping figure out why it was doing it. He listens to you, accepts it with no judgment, and legitimately cares. And then he helps you get better. The most notable and helpful thing you will find with Dr. Heacock (and very few others, in my personal experience) is motivational empathy. He understands your problems, supports you, and shows you there really is a way to get better. He understands how hard it can be to make progress, and if you backslide he helps you get up again. Even in the worst of times, I could trust that it was going to get better, and he'd help me get there, with no judgment. To be blunt: if you actually want to fix your problems, Dr. Heacock is the best psychiatrist you can go to. Period.

I have been bipolar since I was a teenager and that was decades ago. I have had many psychiatrists, some good and some not so good. When I needed a new psychiatrist, Dr. Heacock was recommended to me. In my first visit I found Dr. Heacock to be a caring and non-judgmental individual. I have been seeing him for three years and have never felt better!! I say, 'Two thumbs up to a great Doc!"

I started seeing Dr. Heacock, about a year and a half ago for help with my addiction to prescription pain pills. I have always been able to talk openly with Dr. Heacock. I have never needed to lie. He just gets it. He, understands and his down to earth personality makes you feel comfortable enough to really share so you can figure out how to overcome. When, I speak with Dr. Heacock it's like we are working together. He is going to listen and help you. I have worked with several people over the years who have helped me. But no one has ever helped me like he has. Truly gave me my life back. You are in good hands with him.

I have been going to Dr. Heacock for over two years and he has been tremendously helpful in getting me through periods of severe insomnia, anxiety, and obsessive compulsive disorder. Dr. Heacock worked with me to find medications that were effective in providing short and long term treatment for me, and has always advised a holistic approach to mental health (medication if necessary, living a healthy life, and cognitive behavioral therapy). Dr. Heacock is friendly, trustworthy, and a true mental health expert. I would highly recommend him for anyone looking for a Psychiatrist.

Truly exceptional physician. He cares about his patients and works hard to craft an individualized plan, going beyond the run-of-the-mill approach that most allopathic psychiatrists use.

My experience with mental illness, namely depression, anxiety, and addiction started over 25 years ago. Interaction with most psychologists and psychiatrists had been discouraging and frustrating. I couldn't find a doc. that was a good fit for my mental health needs until I started working with Dr. Heacock about 10 years ago. Craig Heacock is exceptional at working WITH his patients to reach the best treatment plan for successful recovery. He shows respect and genuine care by truly listening to his patient while discussing issues and concerns. Heacock is a compassionate, strong encourager, and knows how to motivate his patients. He expects patients to partner with him by working hard with the tools given in order to together help in reaching personal recovery goals and improved quality of life. Dr. Heacock Is exceptional in regards to pharmacology, and determining medication therapy and management that best fits particular patient and their diagnosis. I have to say truly, that Dr.… Heacock helped me get out of a suicidal, addictive, self destructive "prison" I have much gratitude, respect, and appreciation for the impact he has had on my life. I believe that he is a huge factor in why I was able to choose life instead of suicide.

I had a great experience with Dr. Heacock, he took time with me trying to figure out what was wrong and after we tried different things and remedies, he figured it out. He is very down to earth, one you could hang out with, I thank you Dr.Heacock for everything.
