Dr. Craig A Lang, MD

I called in advance to schedule an appointment specifically for a custom orthotics *fitting/casting* and a night splint, and I confirmed the office accepted my insurance. I also arranged for years of podiatry records to be faxed in advance. At my visit with Dr. Craig Lang, Dr. Lang had not reviewed my records, examined my feet only briefly, and issued a prescription for a night splint and orthotics. Despite my explicit request for an appointment solely for the purpose of casting/fitting, none was done, and I was informed I would need to go elsewhere — requiring additional waiting, PTO, and uncertainty about further co-payments. If all I had needed was a prescription, I would have obtained it from my primary care physician, who works alongside me daily. I scheduled this visit specifically for fitting/casting, not for a prescription. Upon checkout, I was initially asked to pay $50, which is not the copayment required by my insurance plan for podiatry. I refused and was ultimately… charged the correct $25, though I was warned I might later be billed more. It appears my policy was never checked in advance, despite the office having my insurance information well before the appointment. At the follow-up appointment with the orthotist, I was turned away. The orthotist explained that the prescriptions from Dr. Lang did not include any diagnosis codes and that “plantar fasciitis” alone was insufficient for coverage. They declined to provide the equipment or suggest how the prescription could be corrected; they simply refused service despite my scheduled appointment, the month-long wait, and more PTO used. Afterward, I contacted UPMC again and was told the coverage policy contains more than 80 pages of diagnosis codes in their pay policy, and that the office should already have been aware of this. When I relayed this, your staff stated they were not familiar with it. I called UPMC yet again and asked them to call the office directly to share how to access and use that pay policy. Shortly after, I was told the document was “very long” at nearly 80 pages of covered codes and that I would have to wait a week until the Office Manager could return who had more experience with this. Upon checking back in, I was advised that no codes seemed to fit and that they can’t “just make up codes” — leaving me with no treatment, despite my repeated follow-up. I did everything possible as an informed patient to avoid errors. Yet despite my diligence, I lost PTO, time, energy, and trust — and received no service. I also sent a complaint to the Office Manager and have yet to receive a response. Bottom line: Go elsewhere.

Best foot doctor in town. My family and I go to home in pain and get fixed.
