In one visit, he solved a problem I had had for 30 years!!

I had surgery by Dr. Smith in 2008. If you want an excellent skilled surgeon with tons of experience, he is it. He is very professional, generally doesn't make a lot of small talk. If your looking for a smooth talker he is not it. Straight to the point, and get the matter fixed with skill. My rating is excellent.

I love this man. His surgery changed my life!

Earlier this year I met with Dr. Smith on 3 occasions for Internal and External Hemorrhoids. After my 3rd visit in less than 3 months (with increasingly unbearable pain while being treated with creams prescribed by Dr. Smith) he was suggesting surgery. Instead, my 4th visit was to a partner within the practice, for a second opinion. A few weeks after meeting with the 2nd doctor - no more health issues! And surgery was not necessary. Suppositories were prescribed and worked like a dream. Dr. Smith's nurse is excellent! However, I would never recommend Dr. Smith. I am young with excellent hearing and I could barely understand a thing Dr. Smith said ("Dr. Mumbles"). Dr. Smith rarely looks into his patients eyes while talking. He'd rather look at the wall or floor while discussing your condition or future action. Over the course of 3 visits he spent less then a total of 5 - 10 minutes with me (in TOTAL). The second doctor within the same practice spent approximately… 30 minutes examining me and discussing my options and course of treatment. Please... you may be able to get an appt with Dr. Smith (because his patient turnover is so fast) - wait a few extra weeks and get a decent doctor!

Rude, thoughtless, has no time for you. He's just interested in the "mechanical" and has the bedside manner of a robot.

He has the worst bedside manner possible.....as a Patient you have questions...he doesn't answer them .....and smoothly disappears out of the room right in the middle of a conversation . You are left scared and anxious. He hasn't changed nor grown to be better in over 15 years and should just retire.

Dr. Smith has no regard for another persons time. He does not adhere to appointment times. We had to wait for 2 hours plus on the first office visit and about the same on the day of the procedure. Dr. Smith, once he does show up after hours of waiting for him, is in a hurry and less than explanatory or apologetic for his massive delay. When we complained about his tardiness he kept us waiting an extra 3 hours. I think out of spite

Good man, bad mistake.

This doctor botched my operation and follow-up care was next to nothing. After two months of complications and no help from Dr. Smith other than "it will take time", I went to the emergency room where they found Dr. Smith's error. If I had not gone to seek further help elsewhere my PCP stated that I could have died. I chose this doctor myself after reading the Top Docs article. I have to blame myself for this. When the "error" was discovered, not ONCE did Dr. Smith say he was sorry. He only said, "it must have happened during the operation!" Well, DUH! Do not trust the Top Docs article as the doctors themselves vote for each other, not the patients. Do not go to Dr. Smith if you value your life, is all I have to say. He should not be practicing.

I had a stapled hemorrhoidopexy performed with complications I was never warned about that have lasted in excess of 3 months. I have made repeated visits to Dr. Smith and after-hours calls to the on-call service for such issues as daily rectal bleeding, including blood running down my leg while at work, fecal incontinence, constant burning pain, an anal fissure (tear), and new hemorrhoids. It took requesting a copy of my medical records and informing Dr. Smith that I had made an appointment with VCU Health System for a second opinion to finally get him to sit with me for longer than 3 minutes to discuss an actual plan of care for these problems. I cannot recommend this physician to anyone in need of colon/rectal care.
