I went into SUNY Downstate L&D triage with a severe UTI at 38 weeks . At this point I had lower abdominal pain and blood in the Urinary tract along with other tell tale signs of the infection. After sitting for about three hours, no problem because triage was packed, here comes Cristina Artiles rushing the nurses and staff to clear the triage. She ordered an Ancef shot along with antibiotics to be taken at home. The nurse suggested that I have an IV which I was in agreement with considering that the meds would get through the blood stream faster, Cristina insisted on this shot because she had already put in the orders. The needle was LONG and painful, nonetheless I was grateful to have some sort of medication with the thought that I would finally get some resolve with this painful diagnosis. 72 hours later and 9 pills of antibiotics after, still no relief of pain or symptoms. I will have to return to the triage. If my treatment hadn’t been rushed to begin with, I wouldn’t have to go… through this excruciating pain especially so close to delivery day. I can barely walk. This doctor is one of the reasons why healthcare in urban areas usually results in long term adverse effects of illness or fatality. I could go from having a simple UTI to having sepsis because she was just trying to clear out the triage area.
