Dr. Cristina T Profumo, MD

Dr. Profumo has been a true life saver in difficult times of my life. She is incredibly reliable, (which proves to be often a rare quality in her profession), listens carefully, remembers and follows up. She really cares and, as a patient, this would give you the best possible feeling and a proper sense to be taken care of. It really does give you the strengh to make substantial progress. And I promise it makes all the difference for a patient. Moreover her in depth knowledge of how to identify the correct medication needed to face difficult moments has allowed me to function at times in life when I honestly thought it would have not been possible. And yes, she is really fun too and a very kind person. I would for sure highly recomend her for both psychiatric and therapeutic treatments.

I have been Dr Profumo’s patient for two years. I have found her to be intelligent, empathetic, responsive to my needs, very informed about her field of practice , and available during non-office hours. She is both very professional and very personable. I am very satisfied by my treatment experience with her, and can recommend her without any reservations.

Dr. Profumo has a nice easy way of engaging. You will immediately felt comfortable with her. On top of being easy to relate to she gets to the heart of what you are truly struggling with very quickly! Her suggestions and methods of intervention are all timely and effective. I would highly recommend this talented Psychiatrist!

Dr. Profumo is reliable, on time, very attentive, she spends a lot of time with me which is not common. I never felt like she was rushing me or didnt want to listen to me. She seems to really wanted to understand what I am experiencing, she's not quick to just medicate, truly wants to figure what was best for me. She takes a lot of notes which I like so I knew she will remember the details the next visit. She definitely thinks outside the box. She has helped me tremendously. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Profumo.

Dr Profumo recognized the root problem and worked hard to make sure that I was properly treated.

She does not hand out scripts. Dr. Profumo is very thorough, and particularly intent to understand how patients' minds' work. She uses a variety of clinical and holistic approaches, and is very progressive altogether.

I have had several docs over the years, and I've been lucky enough to have a few good ones. Dr Profumo is not one of those. I got a bad feeling about her ability to deliver treatment from the beginning but desperate, I pressed on. She repeatedly contradicts herself, and forgets key details about my health. Lastly, like many Americans, I have been affected by the poor economy and was laid off last year. Recently my unemployment ran out while the Senate figures out what to do, leaving me with money for treatment/meds. Emergency situation, right? She'll just call in a quick Rx and I'll be back to our sessions once the government figures this out. Nope! Great position to put your patient in. Just another overpriced NYC Doc...

I received a voice mail from her brother saying she was closing her practice for an undetermined period of time. After having worked with Dr. Profumo for awhile, this was quite a bizarre and traumatic experience. I was forced to move on and find another doctor. there was never any follow-up when she re-opened her practice.

I have seen Dr. Profumo on and off in her office. She is always professional, respectful, warm, and caring. She pays attention to me and doesn't judge. I can tell her anything. Her face always shows sensitivity and kindness. I am very grateful to her for helping me with my illnesses. I am not an easy patient, but she helped me to see myself better and to function better in the world. She helped me with my borderline personality disorder, depression, anxiety, social phobia, self-harm, suicidality, and anorexia. She has always been there for me. She follows up with my other doctors so we can establish a team of caretakers. She is very intelligent and has a quick wit. If not for Dr. Profumo, I would have never graduated from graduate school with my Ph.D. She helped me work through my issues with finishing my dissertation as well.She is an accurate diagnostician. She doesn't push meds, nor does she withhold them. She believes me when I have side effects. She is an excellent… listener and she has a great memory. I am thankful for all of her astute insights and for her kindness in treating me. She gave me a reduced rate when my insurance stopped. I still owe her $300 and she has never once hounded me for it. I plan to repay her as soon as I am able. It has been years and I am sure she doesn't even remember that I owe her money. She knew at the time what I was going through and that I couldn't afford to see her anymore and she understood that I could not pay her at that time. Oh yes -- understanding and patient. I don't know what that crazy first review is about -- perhaps that person is a bit paranoid. A scheme? Makes no sense. I don't know anyone who hasn't loved working with Dr. Profumo. She is a total sweetheart. She kept me alive. She returned my phone calls and was willing to talk with me on the phone. She is a beautiful, radiant person who is also a gifted empathetic psychiatrist, therapist, and psychopharmacologist. Most psychiatrists suck at doing therapy, but Dr. Profumo is especially proficient in this area. And she has a lot of grounded common sense that other psychiatrists lack, unfortunately. All they care about is medication, but Dr. Profumo is well-rounded -- she knows A LOT and keeps up to date on the latest news. She is active culturally as well. I highly recommend Dr. Profumo. I miss my sessions with her. They were productive and hopeful.

I'm a patient of Cristina and I think she is the most wonderful person I ever met in this field. I was depressed and thank to her care, deep understanding, and outstanding abilities, now I can say that she is the reason why I feel better. Thank to her my life has changed and my view is open and trustfully.I strongly recommend her to anyone.
