Dr. Crystal Lee Bernstein, MD

I saw Dr. Bernstein for 2 visits. During the second appointment, I came prepared with questions about the testing I'd had done; I wanted to better understand the confusing diagnosis I'd received and the associated biomarkers in the labs I'd done. Dr. Bernstein seemed on edge early in our appointment. When I asked her questions about the labs, she was short, abrupt, and rude. I could hear anger in her voice as the volume of her voice increased, almost as if forewarning me of an incoming yell. Eventually, she did almost yell at me; she nearly yelled at me that "this is not a medical school" in response to my questions, and that if I wanted my questions answered, I should read a medical textbook. Her response quieted me for several minutes. I gently then stated that I understood that we were not in medical school, and asked if she could recommend a medical textbook so that I could investigate the answers to my questions. She literally then yelled at me that she did not know of one to… recommend. It was an incredibly aversive experience. A nurse told me after our appointment concluded that Dr. Bernstein might have been having a tough day. Having a tough day does not excuse her grossly unprofessional behavior and her discouragement of patient empowerment.

I'm not too fond of western medicine but Dr Bernstein is the doctor to see if you need a GI specialist. She asks questions and files the feedback away in her brain for future use. Very pleasant manner as well.

I like this doctor. I rarely have anything good to say about docs. They are typically arrogant and have no interest in your opinions, experience or contribution. What a pleasant surprise to meet with Dr. Bernstein and enjoy the encounter! If you are in need of a GI doctor, I believe you'll be pleased with her care.

I had to come in for an uncomfortable procedure (as in I didn't want it - this wasn't a painful procedure), and Dr. Bernstein was not only helpful and patient but very professional.Actually, the procedure was really the best part. The initial visit felt a tad cold with the staff, but Dr. Bernstein was very nice and friendly. The staff for the procedure were really friendly and nice to talk to - they really put me at ease and even joked around which was great.It was a little difficult getting scheduled around different vacation plans (hers and mine), but somehow we made it work. The waiting time was minimal and I felt comfortable asking questions which she patiently answered in a frank and courteous manner.Overall, the experience was a very good one and I'd recommend her to anyone.
