Summary

About me

The nobility of the medical profession was apparent to me at an early age. I watched my parents practice medicine with compassion and dignity during tumultuous times in China. It was my admiration for them that led me to follow in their footsteps and pursue a career in medicine. Following my graduation from medical school, I had the opportunity to experience clinical work at a highly respected hospital in Shanghai. There, I spent most of my time in ophthalmology with rotations on other clinical disciplines.

I had the chance to follow my interest in non-clinical work when my family moved to the United States. I studied biology in the graduate program at the University of California, San Francisco. I later joined a biotech company as a researcher where I worked with a team of scientists on the isolation and characterization of human hematopoietic stem cells. This was an exciting and an enriching experience. During my time as a researcher,I was able to earn recognition in the scientific community through publications in respected medical journals. I also came to appreciate the value of pathology. I began to see the crucial role it played in the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of patients. With a sound training in basic science, knowledge of the pathogenesis, characteristics and outcome of diseases, I saw myself making valuable contributions to patient care.

My prior training at Hartford Hospital has provided me with the exposure to the high quality practice of pathology. It has provided me with a strong foundation on which to build my career. The practice of pathology continues to be dynamic and versatile. During my fellowships training in general oncological pathology and gynecological pathology at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, I studied diverse and unusual tumor cases as well as gained experience with tumor diagnosis and treatment. My experience at Memorial Sloan-Kettering prepared me well for the current challenges and opportunities at Kaiser Permanente.

When I am not at work, I enjoy tennis, skiing, and scuba diving. I love going to Broadway shows and opera's. I love to cook and enjoy entertaining my friends and family.
