Dr. Cynthia Blaise Playfair, MD

I have been seeing her for many, many years, most recently for maintenance. I think she knows me better than I know myself. Seriously she is the most professional, intuitive Psychiatrist I have ever met, and I've seen at least 4 others. I am a medical professional as well, and she is so awesome with respecting me and asking for my input. She reminds me of the good traits I have, that I sometimes forget on those "not so great days". I don't know that there are any other psychiatrists like her, at least in Austin because she does med management as well as therapy. I could never understand how a doctor can manage your meds without really talking with you. I have had 15-20 min med checks way back when I was very ill with other psychiatrist and it was scary! Anyway, it's not always easy to get in at the time I would like because I'm not a regular weekly patient, but her receptionist Karen always helps me get it figured out. In an emergency Dr. Playfair has talked over the phone… and even on vacation we had a telephone session. She is amazing and I reflect every time I see her how blessed I am God brought me to her. I started seeing Dr. Playfair on the recommendation of a friend. She was the first psychiatrist or really therapist of any type I'd seen and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. She helped me adjust my meds (with gradual changes) and got me through a really rough patch with my depression and anxiety.Unfortunately, Dr. Playfair doesn't accept insurance and I had to discontinue seeing her because of the cost - alone it would have been manageable, but I had unanticipated medical and other costs that were took higher priority. That said, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her to anyone who can afford the out-of-pocket cost or who have good out-of-network insurance benefits.
