Dr. Cyrus Kao

Saw him at the Astoria, Qns location. This doctor did not want to see me and I heard him tell the receptionist he had to leave but she told him he had one more appointment. I was in a car accident and I had a Traumatic Brain Injury, Jaw dislocation, a torn ligament in my shoulder, damage and pinched nerves in my neck and spine. My insurance company sent me to him for an evaluation. His job is to do an honest evaluation. He saw me for all of at most 3 minutes. He asked me where the pain was, hit my knee with that tool thing and then said OK. I said "That's it?" he said yes. I told him I would like one more injection in my back because the pain is very bad. He just looked at me. Then he ran out of the building before I even stepped out of the door. He denied that I needed any treatment and said that all issues were resolved. He did not even look at my X Rays or doctor's reports. Here is some advice, don't overbook if you're not going to do a thorough evaluation. And if you are going… to lie, why even have the patient come in? I suppose just to go through the motions and pretend you did your job? This slimy con artist is a disgrace to the medical field.

Dr. Kao was the medical reviewer for an appeal my wife filed with United Healthcare. My wife requested pre-authorization for a new migraine medication. Dr. Kao was unqualified to render an opinion regarding migraines, but he took the insurance company's money to give his "expert" opinion. My wife provided information regarding all of the conventional treatments that she had tried and failed over the past 20 years. Dr. Kao decided that, because we did not have records of those treatments, "The documents submitted are not sufficient to make the conclusion about the medically [sic] necessity [sic]." One would think that, when making decisions that affect peoples' lives, Dr. Kao would at least devote the time needed to write a grammatically correct sentence. Not so! Also, Dr. Kao knows full well that the records NO LONGER EXIST because the treatments happened over ten years ago. Dr. Kao is incompetent, dishonest, or both. May he get what he deserves.
