Dr. Dan Cindrel Oana, MD

My daughter had a cold and our usual doctor was not in the office so we were assigned a visit with Dr. Oana. Overall, it was a fairly routine visit until the end. As we were nearly finished, he offhandedly asked if I wanted to do a nose swab to see if she had RSV or another respiratory virus. He presented it as if the test is routine and he was checking to see if I wanted to put my daughter through the discomfort of a swab. She was in an ok mood, so I agreed. That was the extent of discussion about the test. He called the next day to give me the results - which showed that she tested positive for RSV and another respiratory virus. He said there was nothing to do other than to keep her hydrated and rested. A few weeks later, I got an email notice that a bill was due and opened it to see that we were being charged over $500 for the tests. I called billing and was told that the doctor doesn't know pricing and it didn't matter because everyone has different insurance. I pushed arguing that… if the doctor is going to recommend a test, they should have a ballpark understanding of the cost implications and communicate those to the patient of their guardian beforehand. That belief was further reinforced when I had a visit today with our usual physician at the same practice and that doctor said that they would always talk through the cost implications for that battery of tests because they tend to be "expensive." Regardless of whether or not Dr. Oana knew the general costs of the test (which he should know or be willing to look up), the results of the test didn't ultimately matter - his suggestion was simply to keep her hydrated and rested. I didn't need to pay $500 to tell me if she had something or not if it wasn't going to change the treatment outcome.

Wonderful bedside manner

He is wonderful. A true doctor that cares so much about his patients. The office staff is exceptional as well. We are so glad we chose him as our son's pediatrician. I highly recommend him to anyone who is looking for a compassionate, knowledgeable pediatrician.

Dr Oana is very intelligent and he explains every detail patiently. He is more concerned about the kids health than his pocket. Absolutely recommend him.
