Dr. Daniel Erik Abbott, MD

Dr Abbott successfully removed a GIST cancer in my small intestine. We then completed the surgery be removing 6 inches of the small intestine. Dr Abbott was extremely confident that he could successive do the bowel reconstruction after removing the tumor. He was very open to answering my wife and my questions- explaining the procedure, the recovery times and instilling confidence in me. He has the ability to help get rid of fear via his own confidence. So how do I rate the person - professionalism was outstanding as were his surgical skills. After surgery he proceeded with both caution and encouragement. Clarity - again outstanding. He takes the time to listen and then gives thorough and understandable answers. He works with a great team of interns, other doctors and nurses. I cannot recommend him more highly

Dr. Abbott performed a pancreatic resection and splenectomy on me. Fortunately for me, all went very well. Along the way, Dr. Abbott was knowledgeable about my situation and was clear in explaining to me how he could help. He was confident in his surgical skill with out being boastful. I believed he would be able to 'handle' any novel surgical issues he might encounter as he managed some pretty complex surgery to remove the back portion of my pancreas which contained my cancerous tumor and my spleen. I was impressed. I am grateful to him and his surgical team for their excellent care. While my surgery was a resounding success, I was clearly aware of the potential issues and the possibility of a lesser outcome. Dr. Abbott was clear in his communication as well as being empathetic to my concerns. He treated me and my family with respect and concern. I would highly recommend him for his knowledge, skill, ability and his ethical care.

Our experience was - good bedside manner, NOT up to date with treating pancreatic cancer. This is no longer 1980 and protocol is continually changing. Cannot simply brag on number of ‘successful’ Whipples he completes annually. What are these Whipple patient 1-5 year survival rates? Cutting people open to add to your Whipple completion stats prior to doing Complete diagnostics (ercp, eus, pet, etc) is not the course of treatment in this decade. Do your research - Pancreatic Cancer = chemo first. Find yourself a second opinion at a high level pancreatic cancer institute... MDA, Mayo, etc (PanCan.org is a good resource) Before allowing them to go straight for a Whipple. Just bc they are competent in completing the surgery does not mean surgery should be the first line of attack.

Dr. Abbott did my surgery while he was in Cincinnati before he came to WI but he was truly amazing, caring, and compassionate. Without the surgery I had, which was borderline not able to happen because of where my tumor was located in my liver, I would not be here today!! Thanks Dr. Abbott I am truly greatful!!!!

Let's his nurse handle more than he should. If he would listen to the patient the problem would have been taken care of sooner. He needs to listen to his patients more, and
