He is a member of the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation, American Society of Transplantation, International Society of Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association, the Association of Academic Surgeons and the European Association of Cardiothoracic Surgeons.He obtained his BS and MS in biochemistry and chemistry respectively, from Stony Brook University in New York. He obtained his MD degree from SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University in Brooklyn New York and stayed there for his general surgery residency and completed a Ph.D. degree in Cardiovascular Molecular and Cell Biology.He has 26 peer-reviewed publications, co-authored in 3 textbook chapters and 2 US Patents.Dr. Beckles is President of the Board of Managers for SUNY Downstate Medical School Alumni Association and Chief Medical Officer for the Trinbago Progressive Association and its international Medical Mission Trips. He is joined by his wife, Kassie, and 3 sons ages 10, 14, and 16 who are outstanding tennis players.
