VERY disappointed with my husbands follow through care by office staff. Dr, Ben has always been very thorough in caring for my husband who has many medical challenges. I’m a RN of 44 yrs and I findhim to be one of the most intelligent physicians I know. Unfortunately I find his staff unwilling to make calls to expedite consults. I have been very disappointed with them. Critical follow through calls and assistant was not there when my husband had a diagnosis of cancer. It took almost a month to get my husbands clearance to have surgery.

Dr, Bendetowicz was my primary physician for the five years I resided in Southwest Florida. I believe strongly that an Internist is a good choice for any patient approaching mid-life who watches their personal health closely. From my beginning visits, Dr. Bendetowicz monitored my routine blood work and medical history closely, offering his insight and taking time to discuss any of my questions to personal satisfaction. When I was "officially" diagnosed with relapsing-remitting stage Multiple Sclerosis in my 50's after years having many commonly related and otherwise innocuous symptoms like fatigue, it was an easy decision to keep Dr. Bendetowicz as the "Captain of my ship." People with MS often have other specialist doctors before a Neurologist usually makes the MS diagnosis after an unexpected "relapse" incident. In my case I had a sudden paralysis of my legs that fortunately retreated after hospitalization. MS care advice normally recommends choosing just ONE doctor to… oversee all symptoms and health care to best make certain all care interacts properly and optimally. In my instance with Dr. Bendetowicz, after MS diagnosis I had extreme and sharp pain in my side that was brand new one day. Dr. Bendetowicz connected me with a Gastroenterologist for an immediate appointment and a subsequent same day scan with a radiologist Together the three offices fast-tracked a "direct admit" to a nearby hospital for a perforation in the digestive system. Dr, Bendetowicz connected me with a great and appropriate surgeon, again same day. She recommended a highly limited diet (mostly ice chips initially) to stabilize the perforation while my MS neurologist was brought in to consult with her and Dr. Bendetowicz. The result was I was treated with an "MS med" for about six weeks prior to the surgery as a hopeful precaution. Surgery in an MS patient can often be a trigger for a relapse or an exacerbation of the disease. After weeks of the MS med I did have the successful surgery to eliminate the perforation, with Dr. Bendetowicz making certain I was monitored in the hospital by his associates. Upon discharge Dr. Bendetowicz once more took over my primary care, monitoring me through blood work and office visits for the side effects common for that particular MS medication that I continued. Of course I continued to see an MS neurologist specialist who "shared notes" with Dr. Bendetowicz ongoing. I also consulted with Dr. Bendetowicz before getting future influenza shots and not yet getting the "shingles vaccine" as both could potentially cause problems for MS Patients. I left the care of Dr. Bendetowicz after an employment related move to the Atlanta area where I am currently a patient of The Shepherd Center, specialists in brain and spinal cord injuries and diseases. To this day I think of my fortuitous first call to Dr. Bendetowicz when the sharp pain in my side suddenly occurred "out of the blue." Perforations in the digestive system without early diagnosis and treatment can often times be fatal.

I had to cancel my appointment the morning of my afternoon appointment due to an emergency, four days later I got a certified letter letting me know that he had come to the conclusion that he could no longer serve me as my internist. Can he do this? Is it even ethical?

All of my friends as well as my husband and myself go to Dr. Bendetowicz. He has diagnosed illnesses other doctors have overlooked and saved my friend’s life. We would not go anywhere else. He is not part of a big group so the care is personalized and when you call the staff knows you. I have been a patient at a big group where your call goes into a call center and nobody knows you. When I saw a doctor in a big group, the doctor had no idea who I was and had not looked through my chart. Dr. Bendetowicz always remembers me and is well informed when he comes in the room. He answers my questions and genuinely loves the work he does. Schedule an appointment with him. You will be glad you did and will refer your friends to him because he is an excellent doctor.

I went To the doctor for two up until the Spring of 2015. It was not a good experience. He was in the habit of using his staff to call about test results, rather then call himself. That led to confusion. The doctor's billing practices were completely disorganized. I am a snowbird. I receive my mail at our Northern address. When I registered, I explained that all mail had to sent North. However, the office would always sent statements to the Florida address. I complained several times. However, they never could get it right.

Both my husband and several friends are patients of Dr Bendetowicz, Both my husband and I feel very fortunate to have been his patients for 13 years. I like that he always is trying to improve on our good health and concerned he is doing the best he can to keep us healthy.

Very thorough, very caring. Wait time has drastically improved.
