Dr cohen had performed a thymectomy on my mother. he had assured us although the v.a was a teaching hospital that he would be the ONLY one performing the surgery including all internal sutures. instead he had a student do tje internal sutures and the student hit and caused permanent damage to my mothers vagus nerve. After her surgery she went downhill fast couldnt eat, speak,swallow, she had constant vomiting which in turn aspirated into her lungs causing an infection. after a month at the v.a hospital under his care she was getting worse and closer to death. my dad and i made the decision to move her tufts where within four days they were able to diagnose he with a vagus nerve injury. after he told us for over a month he didnt know what it was putting her through a plethera of tests. once she was diagnosed by the amazing doctors at tufts it was so late her lungs were ao infected and her systems shutting down we were told on an induced coma may save her. Thankfully it did. However… after she spent two months in a rehab learning to walk , eat,talk , and breath on her own again. Since then she has had problems eating, digesting,breathing,an extremely high heart rate and can no longer walk more than a foot before she is out odfbreath. her quality of life is poor and i her daughter is trting to make sure this doesnt happen to anyone else. please take thos seriously as it has changed all of our lives forver.
