I went to see Dr. Ekkens due to loss of pain management. I was at the end of my rope trying to find a provider that would fill my narcotic pain meds . I was frantic. I decided to try suboxone. I went to a new pain management dr and was full of hope once again. Things did not play out the way I expected them to and he lost my trust. That’s when I called Dr. Ekkens, totally by chance. I was not very hopeful having been let down so many times before. What I found was completely different. After only two visits, the receptionist remembered my name. The nurse greets you with a huge smile as does the dr. I could not be more pleased. I started on the strips. They tasted wretched. So then I asked for Zubsolv. Jackpot!!!! The hardest part is the induction. But have faith in Dr. Ekkens. Once you get to your appointment for the induction it’s a matter of moments and you will feel better. And now my life is free of pain meds for the first time in 6 years. Dr. Ekkens and this drug changed my life.… My pain was never better that 5 mostly more like. 7. Now it is more like a 2. All I used to do was grit my teeth until my next dose of pain meds. Now I don’t even think about my meds. I can’t even tell you how many I have left and I am at the end of my prescription. I could on any given day always tell you how many pain pills I had. It is a ritual. Counting every couple of days. Wow! How beautiful life is now. Thank you Dr. Ekkens and staff.

Been in Chico for 45 years practicing, first suboxone doctor (great general practice doctor for addicts) in Chico, people from Redding recommend him. He knows everyone- from ADHD specialist psychologists to good dentists to great pharmacies- a skill critical for a GP, referrals. He is not lose with his scripts, but he is not afraid of using medicine. Knows a lot about mental health and addiction, so if you are in that boat, he should be your GP doc. Awesome bedside manners, prompt doctor (I wait at max 5 minutes when I sign in). He is older, but he is sharp and nice and understanding.
