I saw Dr Garlitos to set up radiation followup for a rare type of cancer. Dr Garlitos' staff was courteous and upbeat, and showed the professionalism sometimes lacking in medical offices. When Dr Garlitos came in to see me, he had just checked for updated research on my form of cancer. I thought this was particularly thorough as he had already prepared for my visit, and the nurse was explaining the radiation procedure we'd be following. Also, this cancer is so rare that studies and updates to treatment have been very few and far between. Well, thank God he did check again! Astonishingly, a new standard for treatment of this specific cancer had just been released! What was particularly important was the change in size of clear margin standard, which had been reduced by 33% from the previous protocol! Because he checked this, radiation was not required and I am now in an observation stage instead of enduring the time, discomfort, and cost of 6-8 weeks of unnecessary radiation… treatment. Sometimes it is proper to compliment a doctor on services performed well. In this case, I am happy to compliment his thorough and constant updating on changing treatments, and the fact that this knowledge made his expertise in the treatment room unneeded. This was the best medical treatment I never received.
