Dr. Daniel Fleming Hayes, MD

I saw Dr. Hayes for my second Triple Negative Breast Cancer diagnosis. I was treated for my first diagnosis several years earlier in my hometown where a VUS was found on the BRCA2 gene. With my second diagnosis, Dr. Hayes told me that the VUS had been identified just weeks before my second diagnosis and that I was positive for a BRCA2 mutation. I had a Bilateral-Salpingo oopherectomy based on this information as well as chemotherapy and other surgeries. I found out afterward that what he told me was not true. The VUS had NOT been identified as a mutation. He lied!

Whatever,other patients' opinions of his personality or office style, I love him. Dr Hays has saved my life a couple of times. I too have metastasized inflammatory breast cancer and he has kept-me alive for 10 years and still going. When will he get his Nobel? : )

Ive been Dr. Hayes' patient now for 8 yrs. I transferred to him after I was told I have Stage IV Met. Breast Cancer and I had 1-3 yrs to live. I did an enormous amt of research to find the #1 breast cancer oncologist, regardless of where the Dr. is. I ended up at Sloan Kettering & saw Dr. Clifford Hudis, MD, he reviewed all my files,path. reports, examined me, etc, Dr, Hudis totally agreed with the diagnosis, told me I do have Stage IV Met.Breast Cancer that is now in my bones, primarily my spine & ribs, he agrees with previous doctor I have 1-3 yrs to live but he has patients that have exactly what I have and they are still alive, advised me that I am H2 positive so he spoke to me about my different options and he strongly suggested I switch to Dr, Hayes in Ann Arbor vs where I was currently being treated and Dr. Hudis got me into see Dr. Hayes. At first, I thought the world of Dr, Hayes, for the 1st 2 yrs or so then there was a 100% change in Dr Hayes and I was being treated by… his N.P. who honestly thought and now really thinks she is a doctor. It now is rare that I see Dr. Hayes and when I do, he stands as if he is ready to jet out of the room. I do not get any results of any of my tests (x-ray, blood) from him I receive that from his NP. Dr. Hayes travels a great deal now, he no longer appreciates when the patient is their advocate when at first he truly appreciated his appreciated it and encouraged it, but now gets extremely upset. When I make a list of questions I want to ask him, never fails, those are one of the days he is not in the office and I had to see his NP and by this point I refuse to see her because she does not tell Dr Hayes my questions and if I had abnormal blood test results or scan results, when I do finally see him, he has no idea what Im talking about, because she did not charge them, but its amazing how she comes up with an excuse and totally covers herself and Dr. Hayes does NOT get upset with the situation. I am now in the process of seeing other Breast Oncologists with background in bone mets. Dr. Hayes is extremely upset that Im doing this, he is questioning me why and I told him I want to be treated by YOU my physician, NOT your NP and it is right on the final impression of the scans that my cancer has/is progressing and Im only on Herceptin and every 4 weeks Zometa for my Bone Mets and it says on the final results states I need to be on a chemo w/Herceptin and he says no, so Im getting other opinions and these other 2 Ive gone to state in their opinions I definitely need to be on chemo w/herceptin and it shows up on the scan reports it even states.Final statement Ive really beginning to lose confidence in Dr. Hayes and may switch dotors.

He and the Breast Cancer team at University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center diagnosed and treated my metastasized inflametory breast cancer.
