Dr. Daniel Marelli, MD

Daniel Marelli, MD, is a cardiovascular surgeon at Bayhealth. He performs open-heart surgeries and catheter-based procedures including treatment of aortic aneurysms and the transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedure. When he entered medical school, Dr. Marelli knew he wanted to become a heart specialist. He went on to UCLA to complete a congenital and transplant heart surgery fellowship. Early in his career he did research in areas such as hyperlipidemia, also known as high cholesterol; tracheostomy, a procedure which places a tube in the trachea through the neck to help someone breathe; and transplant surgery. Dr. Marelli created a heart transplant database from which he was able to generate many clinical papers. He also was involved in clinical trials for mechanical heart assist and replacement devices. He is an adjunct associate professor at Penn Medicine in Philadelphia. Helping people continue their journey is what Dr. Marelli finds most fulfilling about his work. He …likes to listen to patients carefully so he can discover who they are. Dr. Marelli is proud to work at Bayhealth Medical Center, which allows him to work and live in a diverse community. He enjoys interacting with patients and families in and around town. The culture of quality inspires him to continue growing and excelling in his specialty. He considers Delaware a gem and enjoys the outdoors in all four seasons. In his spare time, he likes to stay fit with regular exercise as well as yoga and skiing.
