Dr. Daniel Ari Mendelson, MD

Dr. Mendelson has a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry (1988 with Highest Honors) from Rochester Institute of Technology where he was also the Distinguished Alumnus for 2012. He completed a Masters in Biophysics (1993; solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance in biological systems) and a Medical Doctorate (1995) at the University of Rochester. He furthered his training by completing a residency in Primary Care Internal Medicine (1998) and a fellowship in Geriatrics (2000) also at the University of Rochester. Dr. Mendelson came to Highland Hospital in 1999 during his second year of fellowship to help develop the inpatient, acute geriatrics service at Highland Hospital. He also helped establish Strong Health Geriatrics Group where he has served as associate medical director. He co-founded the Geriatric Fracture Center at Highland Hospital and lectures world-wide about topics related to fragility fractures and has several publications in this area. He is the founder of the Palliative Care …Consultation Service at Highland Hospital and helped establish the Palliative Care Consultation Service at Strong Memorial Hospital. Dr. Mendelson is the Medical Director of the Highlands at Brighton and Monroe Community Hospital; he recently served as medical director of Visiting Nurse Service of Rochester & Monroe County and the Baird Nursing Home. He serves as a member of local, not-for-profit boards of directors, the Highland Hospital Ethics Committee, the American Geriatrics Society Ethics Committee, and the NY American College of Physicians Ethics Committees. He has won several teaching awards and other recognition of his work including a Rochester Business Journal Award and the Highland Hospital Distinguished Physician Award.
