Dr. Daniel Seth Merrick, MD

Messages left on the office's voicemail were ignored, and inquiries enunciated to staff were not responded to, though answers were promised. Upon meeting with Dr. Merrick this time and on multiple other occasions for the last 9 years, my attempts to present questions to him met with visible/audible irritation, impatience, a sense that he resents that I don't simply take his word for his conclusions, or don't find his brief commentary suffiicient, or don't let his statements conclude our visit. He is rarely encouraging. He ordered a contrast dye for my MRI without considering my CKD, and told me after the fact that the appropriateness of that dye for me should have been taken up with my PCP or nephrologist, despite my kidney condition being of record in his files and despite the fact that the dye was HIS order! In this most recent visit with him, post-MRI, when I attempted to clarify the meaning and import of the radiologist's commentary Dr. Merrick told me he didn't have time to… deal with my detailed queries, I should just trust his 1-sentence conclusion, and that I should either schedule another visit to deal with my questions or accept his expert announcement & be done with it, as he had "a patient in stirrups waiting for his attentions next door". He later stated that my questions would not be appropriate in an actual office visit, since he doesn't have time for such, but offered that I might submit an email list of questions after the sessions. His hostile responses, question cut-offs/interruptions and body language in this last meeting made me feel nervous, belittled, small, insignificant, less important than his other patients (especially the 1 in stirrups), angry, upset, troubled, ignored, dissatisfied, underserved, incompatible, disgusted, frustrated, rage, later that night sleep-disturbed, and ultimately in need of another urologist- one who believes that his/her role includes patient EDUCATION - not just pronouncements of diagnoses & medical conclusions! Taking the time to explain the details.

This is a very professional office and doctor. Dr. Merrick and his staff are courteous and efficient and take the time to explain things. I feel very fortunate to be in such capable and conscientious hands.
