Daniel Merritt JR., MD

Dr Merritt is my new hero. I haven't had a doctor sit and talk, explain, listen, answered all my questions, like he did in a VERY long time. He was professional, courteous, and took my quirky sense of humor in stride. When he was about to get me into surgery in less that 36 hrs, I knew I was blessed. He's a keeper!

Merritt s staff is excellent. When given good data they communicate well. I have been a patient of his for over two years and he has operated on me 8 times. Dan Merritt s communication was excellent. Merritt "shot straight" on everything from pain levels, to estimated time I would be off from my operations, etc. I would approach him with a list with my questions and "what if s". He responded to everything. His follow up was excellent. Problems arose, he sat down with me , gave me options , his recommendations and we worked through all problems. From my experience with him, Merritt has gone above and beyond the call of duty to take great care of me. Twice, at 5 am, I called him from home , he was on call . He met my wife and I at the Emergency Room due to problems I was having. He met me and took me immediately into the OR. By the way, when I first started seeing him, other patients made similar comments about his taking care of them. That is what sold me on… choosing me as my surgeon. I read reviews of him regarding comments about having to wait for long periods to get in an see him - all I can say is - "Have you ever run late for an appointment?" There were delays but nothing out of the ordinary for any doctors office. IN the reviews, none of the patients writing the reviews ever mentioned whether or not they arrived late to the appointments and no specifics were offered just generalities and criticisms of Merritt. There were also comments in regards to his appearance and his boots. Merritt wears hunting boots in his office. The reviews specifically mentioned "his boots and his unprofessional appearance" Since 2016 when I first started seeing him, his appearance was always fine. but I can say this to the patient that wrote that review ...remember your criticism the next time you are lying on the table in the OR waiting to be anesthetized , do the shoes your surgeon has on have any bearing on whether or not you wake up? Again, Merritt operated on my 8 times and his hunting boots did not seem to affect his surgical expertise. I m alive! There are quacks out there wearing Ferragamo shoes - so who cares about his boots? As an American, I am ashamed of how this country has and is treating doctors like Merritt. I would suggest those critical of him live in a single payor system. There are good doctors and bad doctors just as there are patients that take pathetic care of themselves and expect for a doctor to remedy that. I cannot say enough good about the man. He has exceeded every expectation I have ever had in doctors. To date, there have only been a few doctors but this doctor is excellent and very straight forward. I continue to see him and when he releases me, I will when possible, leave doughnuts, snacks, etc...because I never know when I will need him again.

My husband had to wait over an hour after his appointment to be called in. Dr Merritt appeared very knowledgeable but he didn't seem ready to answer questions, he would just blow it off and continue talking about surgery. He then proceeded to go to his calendar and schedule it, we had not even decided to let him do the surgery. We were not impressed with him at all; however, his staff were very nice.

Dr Merritt is personable and warm. He compassion and indeed his passion is palpable. His demeanor inspires confidence. "All will be okay, Dr Merritt is going to fix me." What an outstanding physician and healer. Our community is blessed to have him.

He was kind and listened to my concerns. I thought it was funny for a surgeon to be wearing camo and hunting boots, but it didn't concern me because he put me at ease. The only complaint I had was I was very badly bruised. Everyone was shocked when they seen me, we weren't expecting that.

Dr. Merritt will spend however long it takes to ensure that you understand fully what is going on. Very compassionate. All of his staff that we have dealt with have been wonderful as well. His upbeat and warm personality flows over into his office personnel.

Dr. Daniel Merritt is an exceptional doctor. He has done 2 surgeries on me. One was an emergency umbilical hernia repair and the other was getting my gallbladder removed. Both surgeries went very well and I have very little scarring. I would recommend him to anyone.

I was very disappointed in his physical appearance . He was wearing I'll fitting scrubs and what looked like hunting boots. Overall a very unprofessional look. While he may be knowledgable , his dress did not inspire confidence.
