Dr. Daniel Keling Ries, MD

I have been a home dialysis patient for 2 years with Dr. Ries and his PD nurses. The lack of care is stunning. A specific example (and there are many) involves asking the PD nurse to page Dr. Ries due to RLS symptoms that have become unmanageable. That was a Friday. I was told I would hear back by Monday. By Thursday I'd been averaging 3 hours of sleep a night. When I finally broke down and begged for help, I was told to go to urgent care, the ER or my primary, but they would not offer me any solutions for a symptom of kidney failure. I was then told to take "benadryl or melatonin" both of which a quick, easy google search will tell you will make the symptoms worse, and they do as I tried them. This is one specific example of far too many. Any time I request help with a specific symptom related to kidney failure, including- and not limited to- constant vomiting, RLS, breathing issues, etc I am told to see my primary, who is confused and tells me these are nephrology issue, and… they need to deal with it. Getting a call back, a text back, answers in clinic are almost impossible. You have to fight for every piece of help, and if you don't know how, that could be life or death. My dad also has kidney faliure and has a totally different experience with the UofM, so I'm working on changing over. I wish I would have gotten a choice when I initially got sick. I wish that Dr. Ries and his PD nurses actually saw us as people, and not a box to check for paperwork.

Dr. ries is awful and you should stay away from. He didn't help me at all and dumps you off back on your primary Dr. whenever he wants. He refuses to take responsibility for the problems he creates and than just walks away leaving his nurses to do the dirty work of cleaning up!! He is disgusting and down right nasty!!
