Dr. Daniel James Tonellato, MD

Dr. Tonellato treated my 77-year-old father in the emergency department in the early hours of the morning. I was very disappointed with the care provided. The doctor was dismissive and did not demonstrate the level of thoroughness or consideration I would expect when treating a geriatric patient. My father was given a narcotic drug and then discharged, despite having driven himself to the ED, and driving himself home. There was no clear discussion or documentation addressing the safety concerns of driving after receiving this medication. Although pneumonia was the verbal diagnosis and antibiotics were prescribed, it was not documented in his chart. This omission has created insurance issues and raises concerns about the accuracy of the medical record. Pneumonia ended up being a misdiagnosis. Overall, the experience reflected multiple lapses in clinical judgment and documentation. I hope the hospital reviews this case to ensure higher standards of care and patient safety in the future

The worst doctor ever! He was disinterested, took things very lightly, said things didn't look too bad. He prescribed one pill and left in a hurry after we waited for hours in ER and asked repeatedly to see a doctor for chest pains and a panic attack. The patient also had a tear in his esophegus and was vomiting blood. Patient is in the medical field and asked for an iv with saline due to being severely dehydrated. Dr Tonellato refused saying he should drink ice water, even though it was very painful to drink that. We asked repeatedly to see the doctor due to the emergency nature, but nurses on call said he was too busy. We finally left after spending hours in ER waiting for treatment with no doctor in sight. Does Lutheran General qualify their ER doctors? Does the hospital only have one doctor on staff in ER for that many patients? And an ineffective, disinterested, overworked doctor at that? Very disappointed in LG. I always thought it was a very good hospital, but it seems to have… gone downhill. And this doctor needs more training on how to treat and handle ER patients! A terrible experience!

The doctor Daniel j Tonello is the worst doctor I have ever met. I came to the emergency room with pain in my right hip. All he did was prescribe me ibuprofen, I had ibuprofen before that and he knew that, after 8 hours after this visit I still have a pain. He is not a competent doctor. I have never seen doctor like him. He foolishly did not check where it hurts, stood for 30 seconds and asked 3 questions very rudely. I asked him why he was speaking so rudely to me, to which he replied that he was a supervisor doctor. I asked for another doctor to come to me, but I was refused. He didn’t help me, gave me an ibuprofen tablet and sent me home. I cried and asked for help, but my request was ignored. I'm shocked by this doctor. and I will complain about him to all departments. I’m going to complain to their finance department and IDPH.
