Dr. Daniel Varon, MD

Dr. Daniel Varon is the associate director of the Wien Center for Alzheimer 's Disease and Memory Disorders at Mount Sinai Medical Center, where he specializes in clinical care and research. Prior to joining Mount Sinai, he was medical director for the Partial Hospitalization Program and Inpatient Psychiatric Unit at Levindale Hebrew Geriatric Center and Hospital in Baltimore.

An experienced researcher, Dr. Varon was a principal investigator in a research study on frontal lobe function in Parkinson's disease and a co-investigator in a study evaluating the functional neuroanatomy of anticipatory anxiety in patients with generalized anxiety disorder and healthy controls. He has also conducted other studies on behavioral neurology.

Dr. Varon earned his medical degree from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana School of Medicine in Bogota, Colombia. He completed an internal medicine internship as well as a residency in neurology-psychiatry at Medical University of South Carolina, where he …was named chief resident in neurology and trained in electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). Dr. Varon also completed a fellowship in geriatric psychiatry at the University of Pittsburg Medical Center's Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic and continued his ECT training at the Western Psychiatric Institute in Pittsburgh.

Dr. Varon has held numerous positions in hospitals and clinics in Bogota, Colombia, most recently serving as a neurologist/psychiatrist in the memory disorders clinic at Immacula Hospital and as a psychiatrist at Centro Psicopedagogico Sanitas Geriatric Psychiatry Clinic. He also was an assistant professor of psychiatry at Pontifica Universidad Javeriana. Dr. Varon has co-authored six publications and led numerous conferences and seminars in psychiatry, neurology and neuropsychiatry.
