Im posting this review almost 16 years after my first microdisectomy was done by Dr Wecht. I can't believe the bad reviews he got, that was not at all how i was treated. We joked in the O.R. to keep me calm by telling me only 20% of his patients see his dad after surgery but i started the joke so all in good humor. Larry his assistant took care of everything for me including my work disability payments on time every time. I would recommend him 100% . Unfortunately im laying in a hospital bed waiting on microdisectomy #2 scheduled for friday can't wait. Its with a different surgeon this time not by choice but he seems pretty good and knowledgeable.

I am two weeks removed from lumbar microdiscectomy surgery with Dr. Wecht and his staff. My experience with him and his team has been so positve, I felt compelled to write a review, which I rarely do. I was referred to Dr. Wecht's office by my PCP after my MRI results came in. He was recommending microdiscectomy surgery on my L5/S1 disc, which I had been battling with for at least a year. I made my initial appointment with Dr Wecht to get his opinion. Reading mixed reviews, I wasn't quite sure what to expect before my first visit. The first thing Dr. Wecht did was shake my hand, sat down next to me, and LISTENED to all of my questions and concerns. This is VERY important to me and not as common as you would think in the medical field. After going through all of the options, it was his opinion that I was a good candidate for the surgery. I opted to try a cortisone shot first, to see if that would give me some relief. When that failed, I made the call to schedule the… surgery. Denise at the front desk, and Kathy his nurse, all were excellent in helping me through the process and answering any questions I had. I must say, during my pre-op testing, every medical person I came in contact with was telling me how good Dr Wecht is and that I was in good hands. They said HE is the Doctor that OTHER Doctors come to see when they need a neurosurgeon! Needless to say that helped me feel more comfortable leading up to the procedure. Again, the day of the surgery, he came in and talked with me and addressed any issues/concerns I had. I really don't see how anyone can have a bad experience with him. I'm starting to feel like the negative/neutral reviews were maybe because of the patients and not the Doctor or staff's fault. Just a word of advice, if he doesn't recommend surgery for you, take that as a GOOD sign and run with it! That probably means there is still hope to fix the issue! If you're sitting all day at work like I was, and you're not exercising and stretching enough, it's more likely that you can develop these back problems. This procedure probably could have been avoided if I took better care of myself over the years. I'm only 34. It's up to me to maintain and improve my overall health and well being from now on. There's no magic pill or Doctor that's going to substitute for good health and excercise. Surgery is always the last resort, but if you MUST do it, I HIGHLY recommend seeing Dr. Wecht and his staff. Top level professionals in my opinion. I hope this review can help someone else in the future.

Horrible experience. Never again! Stay away!

Went to talk about my spine disorder and possible surgery. Instead got a 20 minute lecture on how smoking is bad for me. I drove a very long distance to see him because I heard he was very good. Nothing is done about my back which has progressed over several years. If you smoke and are going to see him, I advise that you say you dont smoke. If you want help. I was not happy with my visit.

He is an incompetent physician who pressures patients into treatment he has decided upon without regard to their wishes or their expressed fears regarding risks involved.

Dr Wecht is the best ! He did a Laminectomy and Micro Disectomy. All my pain is gone. Gave me my life back. Easy to talk to. Like a friend.

Learned more about my condition, alternative approaches, and the specifics of what I need to do personally whether or not I have surgery later than several visits to other Drs and pain managment clinic visitsvisits. Brilliant and personable Dr.

Dr. Wecht and his staff saved the life of my son.

Mr. Wecht cares more about his ego and UPMC money that he ever cares for his patients. Stay safe - stay away from him
