Dr. Danielle Elizabeth Marino, MD

Dr. Marino is focused, intelligent, current, empathetic, attentive and thorough. I struggled to get my UC under control for over 15 years, and tried 6 different GI docs in the Syracuse area. From my first visit with Dr. Marino, I experienced an entirely different level of care. Within 3 months, I was in true remission for the first time since diagnosis and have remained healthy for over two years. Dr. Marino gave me my life back and I feel safe and optimistic about my future with her in my corner.

Dr. Marino has been my gastroenterologist for 3+ years now. Here is what I know of her: 1. She only sees patients on one day a week, only from the hours of 9-4pm. She routinely runs 2+ hours behind schedule, so I'm required to take at least a half day off of work in order to see her for a followup. After waiting those 2+ hours, I first see a nurse, then an NP/PA, then Dr. Marino comes in at the end for about 3 minutes just to say "everything's looking good, see you in three months" and that's about it. All that time, money...wasted on 3 minutes of interaction that could have been an email. 2. Dr. Marino frequently and continuously belittles her patients and never seems to know what she's talking about. For example, I experienced an uncommon side effect when taking Mesathalamine where my one arm went completely numb. When speaking with Dr. Marino about my concerns (e.g., will this be permanent? Is this related to the medication? etc.), she looked me in the face and said, "That's… literally impossible. That's not a known side effect of this drug. It's just in your head." A few months later, after stopping the drug because the numbness continued to spread, Dr. Marino finally admitted that, "this side effect is exceedingly rare and occurs in less than 1% of patients." I don't know about her, but "literally impossible" does NOT equate to "rare." Another example is when I asked if biologic medicines (i.e., Remicade/Humira) caused issues with menstrual cycles. Per Dr. Marino, "No, they do not. In my 20+ years of practice, I have never known for that to be the case." When informed that my OBGYN said the exact opposite, that it's a well-known potential side effect, she corrected her earlier assertion and said, "Well, it effects less than 3% of patients sooo..." Lady, COME ON! If you don't know about it the first time around, then say you don't know! Don't basically tell me I'm crazy and then correct yourself 3 months later. TLDR; Don't see Dr. Marino is you actually want quality healthcare and a doctor who knows what they're talking about and actually listens to you.

Dr.Marino made my first colonoscopy a very comfortable experience . She took the time to explain & has a great bedside manners. Highly recommend her!!!!
