I made a phone appointment to talk about a case of bacterial pharyngitis. I explained to her that I was worried about past experiences with doctors refusing to prescribe antibiotics for bacterial pharyngitis because it wasn't strep, and that with a compromised immune system such as my own, several other common bacteria are able to cause symptoms mimicking strep. I explained that this was far from my first experience with bacterial pharyngitis, that it worried me how many doctors were ignorant of the fact that it didn't have to be strep. Instead of taking this in stride and realizing I was speaking of other doctors and not her, she scoffed before raising her voice and saying defensively, "so, what I'm hearing is that you think I'm ignorant. The appointment went downhill from their as I tried in futility to appeal to her sense of decency. In the end, she said she'd only prescribe antibiotics if I had strep.
