Dr. Darci Leigh Walker, PhD

I struggled for many years looking for a therapist to help me unpack my life, issue by issue, step by step. Darci has been the only person to really help me understand who I truly am. She mirrors the things that I need to see and has helped me to plan tangible actions and approaches to shift perspective and action. I am sad that there is a review here where someone had a poor experience with her, because my experience has been exactly the opposite. I relish in the good and successes with her, and I also attempt to come up with ways to create a clear passage through challenging moments in life. I've been with her for over a year, and I know I've made huge strides in personal growth and development because of that time with her.

Darci is a nice person but sadly I didn't find her effective as a therapist. It's not difficult to learn theories and techniques from a text book and arbitrarily "advise" people to subscribe or practice them, what makes a good therapist is the understanding each persons strengths and weaknesses and constructively using tools to help them create unique solutions for themselves. Unfortunately this never happened in my time with Darci. One of the key things about therapy is having a plan to help you reach a goal. In my experience there simply was no plan. Starting each session with "So tell me whats been happening" only really served to forcibly dredge up select negative events of the previous week which were then analysed through the lens of black and white literature and Darcis personal opinion. So the only progress ever really made in retrospect was increasing the amount my insurance ended up paying out. But the real litmus test? When "therapy" with Darci ended things actually got… better on their own - not dwelling on negative events of the past and taking a more positive, proactive and realistic approach to problems seemed to be more effective. I guess in a way having such bad experiences with her jumped started this necessity so I guess in a backward way it was effective! Still, not what I would expect from a professional in this area of health. Don't stay away but most definitely proceed with some caution.
