Dr. Darren Charles Shoyer, MD

Dr. Shoyer is the most patient involved physician I've had in years. When I heard he was leaving Piedmont I was very disheartened. The care he provided me was excellent.

My husband and I both had him as our primary doctor and liked him a lot. He was very nice, listened well and answered our questions. We were sorry to learn he was leaving.

This doctor may need to think of a new line of work that doesn't involve human interaction. Didn't introduce himself, didn't shake my hand, never even made eye contact & stood up against the counter across the room like he was in a hurry. Didn't allow me any time to answer any questions he asked me. Basically firing off questions like I was a Russian spy and he didn't believe any of my answers. I told him why I avoided taking Tylenol based on my Neurologist's recommendations & my history of Tylenol triggering rebound headaches. He said he'd never heard of such a thing. Really???? Really!?! Contradicted every specialist I see & have seen for years including one I've worked with for over 10 years. He wasn't interested in learning that about my health history & suggested medications I can't take for various reasons including the fact that some can cause ulcers. That can be a malpractice suit waiting to happen. Basically treated me like a paycheck and not a patient. Why is he in this… profession??? Never in my life have I been treated so poorly and disrespectfully by any physician, ever. I was shaking and trying to hold back my anger when I got to checkout.

Dr. Shoyer is the very worst doctor I have ever been to and I am up in age. Reluctantly went a second time and it was just as bad, if not worse. I had just moved to a new town and needed a primary physician. He stood across the room in a corner and never touched me on either visit or came any closer. He wanted to know if I had ever had a colon exam and I told him no and I didn't want to either. He said - Oh, you would rather have cancer, huh? I wanted to slap him, but since he was across the room, that wasn't convenient. He did nothing to help me with my medical problems. In light of everything, I did not go back. If you are looking for a good doctor, it would not be a good idea to look in his direction. The only reason I checked one star is there was not a zero to click on.

I had an awful experience with Dr. Shoyer. He is extremely unprofessional, discussing and criticizing my medical records and the doctors that have worked with me in the hall of all of the patient rooms. If I could hear him in my room so could everyone else. I am a 20 year old female that has seen more than my fair share of doctors, I felt that I was more knowledgeable about my medical records than he was. I have never come across a doctor that has such little compassion and respect for his patients and nurses. He was impatient and did not listen to me. Some of his words in the hall way were 'I wasn't trained to deal with this..' . Was he trained in bedside manner at all? He was rude to his staff and short with me in our very brief visit. Asking me questions that made me feel dumb. He then messed up my prescriptions and grudgingly fixed them after being rude to his nurses.
