Dr. Daryoush Jamal, MD

I feel that Dr Jamal is always striving towards ensuring improvement of my symptoms and stability of my mood at every follow up visit. It shows he cares. I'm very satisfied and will continue under his care for as long as possible!

I've had 3 previous psychiatrists; all were good doctors but not great. What I like about Dr Jamal is that he listens and not forced like my previous Kaiser Psychiatrist that was typing while I was trying to talk to her, and we were done in less than 10minutes. I never felt I was being heard and always left the Kaiser office feeling empty. The other quality I like about Dr Jamal is that he gives me a choice and allows me to participate in the decision making process for me, not anyone else like an assembly line; for example, if there are 2-equally good solutions to the same problem, he explains each treatment, pros & cons, and lets you decide which one YOU want! My previous 2nd to last psychiatrist at Cedars thought he was Zeus, it was his way or the highway. Also, my shout-out to Roxana, Dr Jamal's secretary, she's kind, caring and wonderful. She always calls me back and reminds me the day before about my appointment. Roxana always puts me in a good mood, which I could not say… about my first psychiatrist's secretary.. I think there's only one in Pasadena that most likely you've encountered! Dr Jamal is always prompt; sometimes he may be 5 or 10 minutes behind due to an earlier emergency need of a client, or something unplanned, he still give you your time and explains why he's running behind. I can tell he really cares about his clients and his profession. In the beginning my head was very busy with circling thoughts that weaved a web making it more difficult for me to think and see clear; I felt stupid, dumb, useless with no hope. My first psychiatrist diagnosed me with manic-depression and put me on all sorts of mood stabilizers and I did the whole roller coaster ride until I was hospitalized at Cedars. The bipolar thing stuck with me for the next 10+ years, even in hospitals and their psychiatrists. My 3rd psychiatrist was at least brave to say I may get a second opinion, cause I told her I don't really think I'm bipolar. I did a search online and ready tons of reviews and narrowed it down to my top 10, then 5, then 3 and of the 3 I called, Dr. Jamal's office called me back immediately and from there my "journey" began. My symptoms mimicked bipolar but when Dr Jamal explained to me in detail the various components of 2 or more conditions occurring simultaneously it started to make a lot of sense; he educated me so that I would pass on the information to my wife in order to share knowledge and safekeep our kids from having to go through the suffering I experienced for not getting diagnosed right in the beginning and no one taking the time to look again. I'm very thankful to Dr Jamal and I'm lucky to have found him. I wish you the same with your "journey".

I am very impressed with the fact that Dr. Jamal is very open minded and non-judgemental which is very important to me and I have had difficulty before with my previous psychiatrist. Dr J listens to me and is very empathic. I highly recommend him for anyone with a meantal health concern and is looking for an honest and straight forward answer or recommendation.

It took a lot for me to get myself motivated to see a psychiatrist and I am so happy that I went for it. I was not sure what to expect but after the first 10 minutes I was more relaxed and certain that I picked the right doctor and I was going to be in good hands. I didnt feel rushed and I didn't feel I was forced upon a treatment, rather be walked me through my illusion and rationalized with me what my options are to choose from. This was a first for me from a doctor. I really felt that Dr Jamal really cared about me and my wellbeing. Because of him I am back to work and functioning again and I don't believe it would have been possible for me to recover had I gone to someone else. Do yourself and your family a favor and go get checked out. It can be a real life changer!

Dr. Jamal is a dedicated, professional, highly knowledgeable and caring psychiatrist. I am very comfortable taking my son for treatment of his ADHD.

I really enjoyed my 1st session with Dr. Jamal. He is very calm, puts you at ease and really does his job by explaining things in a manner that's easy to follow and understand. I learned a lot about myself and my condition which helped me feel hopeful and understand why I've struggled so much in my life till now thanks to Dr. Jamal. I really liked my 1st psychiatrists but I felt there was more to just suffering depression. My 2nd psychiatrist was witty enough to check me for medical conditions that resemble depression; once that was not the case, I was back to square one again. So I really research and did my homework and found Dr. Jamal to be a good candidate to get an consultation with; immediately after the consultation I looked up my condition and he was dead-on with my diagnosis and dead-on with the treatment. Sure enough about a month later I started to feel not as anxious as initially; then after another change, about 2-3 weeks later my anxiety started to be only 40% of what it… used to be.. I was ecstatic!!! I would have paid any amount 20 years ago to feel like now! My copays used to be $5, then $10, etc.. and now $70/visit with my regular psychiatrist; and I only made 10% improvement. He doesn't take insurance, but you definitely get what you pay for; to me its priceless! GAD sucks!!!!

For years I was in denial about my concentration issue, forgetting simple things, jumping from one job to another, getting easily irritated in everyday situations and bless my wife for her patience and asking me to just give up one day of work and go see an ADHD specialist just for consultation. She found Dr. Jamal for me to see. Obviously I wasn't happy about the idea but I guess getting older tones you down a bit so I went with it and saw him. I used to be on treatment when I was 6 or 7 and I stopped my medication when I hit high school, thinking I know better and I could do it on my own. Maybe stubbornness is a part of it I don't know, but it wasn't a smart idea. When I first met Dr. Jamal, I clicked with him right away and felt he knew what he was talking about and described what I had been going through ever since I can remember to a tee, I was very impressed with his knowledge and it made me feel more confident about my decision to listen to my wife's advice. I wish I wasn't… so stubborn as a teen and had gotten back on meds. I personally feel my carrier and my life would have definitely ended up on the upside, not that it's bad now, but it could have been better and I wouldn't have had so many struggles and difficulties through the years thinking it was my fault or blaming others for it. I wish I knew it was a common illness and not as I thought in my own head as being made-up by my parents and teachers; I wish I knew more about the fact that ADHD could be treated safely and easily as an adult. I've been on treatment for the past 9months and my life has already taken an upswing. I'm more organized, less scattered, not as temperamental, can now enjoy spending time with my wife and not be rushing out the door, I started reading for pleasure (it's been years since I last picked up a book), I've started my own business which I never thought I could do, and on and on... I wish more people that are like me would let legit others that have this illness know the treatment is actually very safe, it's not addictive as they portray on news & TV and it's a total game changer for the better. I thank my lovely wife for being patient with me and not giving up on me and helping me see I was struggling. I thank Dr. Jamal for explaining the illness and putting things in perspective. I honestly would not have gone further if I had not seen Dr. Jamal, as I had a very bad experience as a child and as a teen with my previous psychiatrists. Shout out to his secretary Roxana who is an angel and got me in right away (less than a month) and called me to remind me (which I really needed at the time!!!) and is just wonderful explaining things over the phone. Only downside is I wish he had more availability as far as hours, but since he devotes the majority of his time to treating underprivileged kids at a non for profit place in LA, my personal convenience doesn't matter when he is helping teens to have a better life. I rate him 5+ Stars!! thanks Doc, you're awesome!

I was nervous to see a psychiatrist but my therapist kept insisting I need to see one. So I did my research and narrowed it down to 3 psychiatrist I felt were legit. By default one would not take any new patients so I was down to 2. After I met with Dr. Jamal I had no reason to see the second Dr. He is amazing!! I highly recommend him if you suffer from ADHD and anxiety cause he really knows his stuff and takes the time to explain things which really helped me to be at ease in making my decision about trying medication. I'm so glad I found him; in the mental health world he is like a needle in a hay stack!!
