He introduced the Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) to St. Luke’s. The VAD is a mechanical pump used for patients who have a weakened heart awaiting transplant or who are not candidates for transplant. Dr. Allen also specializes in pulmonary hypertension and has opened St. Luke's Pulmonary Hypertension Clinic, the first in the region.
