Dr. David George Austin, DDS

I was not told this was out of network. The billing department and the staff is very rude. Comments like “do you think we work for free?” “we’re very understaffed just like the rest of the world.” I was told that they cover most insurance companies. They did not indicate that mine was not covered and not giving me the heads up. I would not recommend them to anyone.

While everyone at this office is polite, the level of inconvenience and lack of evidence-based practice is embarrassing. They do not contract with any insurances so expect to pay significant amount of our pocket. This wouldn’t be an issue if you actually received proper care. But you end up spending an excessive amount (2 hours in my case) of time being talked at (while other patients wait). If I’m going to see a medical/dental professional, we should not be spending the majority of time discuss you. Dr. Austin went on and on about his life story, how great and experienced how is, and pontificated about outdated and unproven treatments and therapies. It was a colossal waste of time and money. I recommend seeing Dr. Mark Levy instead. He was recommended by a family friend who is also a sleep medicine dentist and has known him for 15 years. I submitted a request for a visit and got an email from their referral coordinator right away (and it was over the weekend!). Once my records had… been sent in, they called to confirm and I got a same day appointment. I was in and out in 30 minutes (including an exam, impressions, and an x-ray). I got way more information about sleep apnea, why I was specifically affected by sleep apnea, and treatment options. I received clear post-visit information on how the insurance approval process works and the time frames in which I would hear from their office. Dr. Levy was clear, truthful, and up to date on current oral appliances. This was such a stark comparison to Dr. Austin, who pushed alternative therapies and an outdated oral appliance (which I later learned breaks often and had no warranty) while charging fees that are not even remotely justified by the level of “care” his office provides. As a medical professional, his practice is not one that I would ever refer patients to. If you have sleep apnea, TMJ issues, or headache issues and want quality, personalized, current, and efficient care, make an appointment with Dr. Levy.

Nothing he said or did made sense for the intended fitting of a mouth device for sleep apnea. His office, his methods, and his explanations were archaic. His fees per visit are insane for what they do. Apparently he has written some books but I am convinced his only goal is to milk people out of their money. He said my mouth was to small for an appliance but he could fix that through ultrasound therapy and exercises. Total sham. Between the office visit charge of $110.00, therapeutic exercises charge of $30.00, electrical stimulation charge of $70.00, ultrasound therapy of $90.00 and his consultation fee of...hold on....$300.00, you have a total of $600.00 PER VISIT. All with the promise to make my mouth opening bigger to accept a device. I went 3 times before I realized how insane this was. I finally went to another highly recommended dentist who makes mouth devices for sleep apnea, and after one consultation, they said that my situation could not be solved with a mouth device as my… mouth was to small, my tonsils were two enlarged and my tongue was to big. How Dr Austin could have presumed to fix all this through his crazy treatments and exercises is beyond me.

Dr. Austin helped my daughter and I both with TMJ. He is very knowledgeable and is an expert in his field. He and his staff are very personable. Dr. Austin spends time with his patients to inform them of preventive measures to take and how to improve the quality of daily living. He helped me with sleep apnea as well. I would highly recommend him his services.

I went to a consultation with him and that was my only appointment. He tried to tell me I had all of these issues such as arthritis and I had scar tissue that wouldn’t go away without his help. Well even though I was 17 I could tell he was no good. I went to GP for a second opinion, he took one look at the xrays and had no idea what Dr. Austin was talking about. I then went to a chiropractor who also had no idea what Austin was talking about. Had xrays done on another occasion and specifically said there was no sign of degenerative arthritis. Also he told me my issues from TMJ were caused from my braces in childhood. So I called my old orthodontist to see if this could be possible. They said theres no way that they could coincide. Turn old my old ortho used to refer patients to Austin, not anymore. Also told my dentist about how crappy he is, since he was the one who referred me. He also said he would think twice about referring.

Ive been coming to dr Austin for almost 10 years and I love him! He's so friendly and knowledgeable. I always understand what he's thinking and the treatments have helped my tmj problems

Dr. Austin was highly recommended by another Columbus area dentist. I went to Dr. Austin for pain in my left jaw when eating and not being able to open my mouth very wide without pain or the clunking of my jaw if I forced it opened past the pain. With ultra sound and laser plus stretching exercises, I can now open my mouth to eat most normal sized food and measurements taken each visit confirm this. He was easy to get into, his staff is very helpful and kind, he has always taken the time to see me each visit and continue to adjust my bite splint to fit properly as my jaw heals. He continues to offer suggestions to keep jaw and cervical area in alignment and has done so without medicine or surgery. I have recommended him to others.

Had Dr. Austin make a sleep appliance to treat my sleep apnea. Was easy to get an appointment and have the appliance models made. Didn’t take very long to have it adjusted and fitted so I could take it home and start using it. Office help was very knowledgeable and worked well with my insurance. Dr. Austin is a very competent Dr. and has helped my problem. Good experience!

Before seeing Dr Austin I had chronic migraines and jaw pain, sometimes my jaw would pop out of place and I could not open my mouth very wide. It hurt a lot to chew. Thanks to him, my migraines are now gone! And my jaw is doing much better. Dr. Austin has a great bed side manner and takes the time to listen to each patient. I like that he encourages stretching and lifestyle changes opposed to just prescribing pills.
