Dr. David Wesley Barnett, MD

Dr Barnett is friendly and personable. He performed lumbar laminectomy and fusion surgery in April, 2026. The surgery was a great success. I previously had unbearable pain in both legs when I stood and now have no pain at all. In 2013 and 2015, he performed cervical discectomy and fusions on me. Both were successful with no issues.

Dr. Barnett asks great questions and is a superb listener. He will let you know if he can help you, and will let you know if you are not a good candidate for a particular surgery.

Dr. Barnett practices medicine the way it SHOULD be practiced....he carefully listens to the patient, determines if he can help and explains thoroughly the procedure to fix the problem. I initially went to him as a second opinion but after my experience with Jennifer and Dr. Barnett he quickly bubbled to the top and became my only opinion! He is kind, caring and very skilled. I am so pleased with the results of my surgery and would give him more than 5 stars if possible.

I can’t recommend Dr. Barnett enough! I initially saw Dr. Barnett for a second opinion but after meeting with him I couldn’t imagine having the surgery anywhere else. He was very knowledgeable and compassionate and for the first time I felt peace and confidence in having the surgery. The reviews about Dr. Barnett are true. He really cares about you. Even though I had to travel from New Mexico for the surgery it was well worth it. The surgery was 100% successful.

I initially saw my primary care physician for constant numbness and tingling down my right leg and hip. After an MRI and receiving an initial diagnosis of lumbar stenosis, I sought out recommendations for a neurosurgeon in yhis area, especially one using waminimally invasive approaches. Several physician friends recommended Dr. Barnett based on his knowledge, reputation, and the positive outcomes they had seen with their own family members and friends. From the beginning, my experience with Dr. Barnett’s office was different. They reviewed my MRI and information before my appointment to ensure Dr Barnett could help me. When I met Dr. Barnett, I immediately felt at ease. His experience, reputation, and clear explanation of the procedure and recovery—along with a thoughtful plan for post-surgery physical therapy—gave me complete confidence. I was so comfortable that I scheduled my surgery right away. day of surgery went perfectly. Most importantly, immediately after the procedure,… the constant numbness in my leg was gone. I began physical therapy soon after, and by my two-month follow-up, I am well on the road to a full recovery. I am incredibly grateful to Dr. Barnett and his team and would highly recommend him to anyone facing a similar diagnosis. Dr. Barnett didn’t just fix a medical issue—he gave me my life back, and I’m already looking forward to rescheduling that trip. I can’t say enough positive things about Dr. Barnett. From the very first consultation through my post-operative care, he was thorough, patient, and incredibly knowledgeable. He took the time to explain my back condition and surgical options clearly, which gave me complete confidence moving forward. My surgery went smoothly, and my recovery has exceeded my expectations. Doctor Barnett is very skilled and proficient at what he does. He is an accomplished neurosurgeon who doesn't show arrogance in his approach. During my initial consult, he made me feel valued, gave me time to explain my situation and gently guided me through the course of treatments. I was impressed by his humility and knowledge. He is the best.

Update: I wrote the below review 8 years ago but in November my condition worsened to the point of needing an L5/S1 fusion. Everything went great with Dr. Barnett, he has literally done 1,000s of these surgery’s successfully. So, do not be nervous at all. You are in THE best hands! I’m 8 weeks post op and am no longer in pain. I cannot tell you how grateful I am to have went to Dr. Barnett for a second opinion on my spine. Before I went, I read every single one of his reviews and researched his background. And all of those great reviews are 100% true. Dr Barnett is very compassionate, you can tell right away that he really cares about you and the best treatment option for you (and not his business). He doesn't rush in and out. After being told by a surgeon in Frisco that I needed surgery, Dr. Barnett told me that my condition is nowhere near needing surgery right now. He is honest and his first priority is truly the patient and not lining up unnecessary treatments. I can tell you that… he is honestly the best doctor I've ever met with!

I had a herniated disc that caused me so much pain to the point of not being able to walk! Dr. Barnett discussed options with me, made well thought recommendations, and took time to answer my questions. Dr. Barnett has conducted two procedures on my spine, one on my lumbar region and the other in my cervical area. Both operations went flawlessly and without any complications, and both were highly effective at dealing with the problems for which they were required.
