Dr. David Howard Berman, MD

I had a very disappointing experience with Dr. Berman. During my first appointment, he unexpectedly began discussing his political beliefs, which I found highly unprofessional and inappropriate in a medical setting. His comments made me feel uncomfortable and unsafe. His bedside manner is terrible. He frequently interrupted me by raising his hand and saying he "doesn't care" and just wanted direct answers to his questions. I felt completely disrespected. While I appreciate the medical advice provided, I am seeking a new Primary Care Provider due to these unprofessional behaviors. I cannot recommend Dr. Berman based on my experience.

Dr. Berman is a great doctor. Very personable and professional. His staff is always courteous and professional as well. Wait time is next to nothing and if you need to see him and/or get blood work at the last minute they can do that and still see you promptly. My tush barely touched the seat before I was called. If you don't want to communicate via email, you don't have to, however I find the use of email very convenient, especially since it saves me a trip and extra copay. Any concerns you can always call or email and you get quick responses.

David Berman is a horrible doctor; he is condescending, patronizing and arrogant. He prescribe useless test and does not listen to his patients. After my last visit I told him that I would never see him again... He is rude and unprofessional.

Excellent md extremely supportive. He is knowledgeable and has a good bedside manner. The office staff is also good.

Awful experience. Average wait time per visit has been more than 1 hour. He walks around with a computer and is more into his technology and emails than into you, the patient. Laughed when I said he misdiagnosed me (which he did). So arrogant. Forced unnecessary procedures to increase billings for new MDs in practice and then overbilled me for work done. Rude staff...doesn't follow up on prescription renewals or problems. No one cares that you have a job and can't hang around for hours. STAY AWAY FOR YOUR SANITY, YOUR POCKET AND YOUR HEALTH

I went to Berman for about 15 years and he completely lost touch with his patients. First, he is constantly attached to computers creating a "wall" between him and patients and he has an email address: "iwantmylabresults@...". He prefers email contact and reports your lab results via email. Trouble is if something isn't right (as in my case) he tells you the result without interpretation or treatment plan. When I tried to follow up via phone (I called numerous times), it wasn't until I threatened to report him did the office "find" him (they claimed he wasn't in the office). Thank god for the internet. Second, he prescribed the wrong medication for me because he didn't want to take the time to look up what brand medication I was actually taking. Third, he is constantly pushing his associates on you, even when you don't need or want to see them. One on occasion he even paid my deductible so I would see his new allergy doc. (The insurance company picked up the rest) Fourth, he… doesn't keep appointments. I am a business owner and have been forced to wait up to two hours when I had an appointment (they take walk-ins pushing back scheduled patients, won't call if they are running late, and won't let you leave and come back, kicking you out of the queue if you do so). The last time I was inundated with work and rushed, getting to him at the scheduled time. After 45 minutes and still two patients ahead of me, I stormed out. The person before me even complained that she could not sit up in the waiting room any longer and asked for a room to lie down. No wonder his patient load is largely elderly and housewives. Fifth, he bills for procedures never done (more than once) and deductibles that were paid for at the time of treatment. Sixth, his staff does not phone in prescriptions on a timely basis, requiring multiple calls. (They claim they have too many to process in one day...note: if the office is that busy, hire more people!) Finally, he lost his touch in diagnosising...he was great once, On my final visit, I told him he misdiagnosed me (he did), he looked down at me in distain as if a lay person could ever say such a thing. I STAYED BECAUSE IT IS EASIER THAN TO LEAVE...BUT, THIS IS ONE REALLY BAD DOCTOR. AVOID AT ALL COST...YOUR LIFE IS AT STAKE

I have been using Dr Berman for about 15 years, first as my GI doc and then as my internist. He has proven to be a perceptive and accurate diagnostician, which is what I really hope of a doctor. When others misdiagnosed...Dr Berman came through. Regarding the experience...it could be better. The staff often does not follow up with prescription refills, invoices have been incorrect, and twice no one told the medical staff that I was in the waiting room. Plus, sometimes Berman orders tests to generate some billing for the specialists that share the place. I know what I'm getting into, so I bring a book and clear my schedule and don't let it get to me...I know in the end, my problem will be diagnosed and the course of treatment correct.

My doctor of 29 years retired and turned his practice over to Berman. I had been advised to find another doctor. Friends who had used him found him unsympathetic and a chronic double-biller. I had trouble, though, finding a Mt. Sinai internist in my medical plan, so I stayed. Until my first encounter with Berman, which was by phone. On a Saturday, I called the service to request a prescription for a sleep aid. My mother had died unexpectedly three days before, and I hadn't had more than three hours of sleep a night since. I was in shock and sleep, dialing a phone number accurately was a challenge. On the third try I finally reached the service.Berman called back a few minutes after 9:00 a.m. He did not say he was sorry to hear that my mother (whom he knew) had died. He insisted that I call the pharmacy FIRST to make sure it was open. I insisted it was open, explained (and figured that as a doc, he might have understood) that I had trouble dialing the phone. "Call to be sure… it's open" he kept demanding. Finally, I said, "It's after 9:00, it's a Duane-Reade. The only reason it wouldn't be open would be if it burned to the ground over night." I had no doubt that I could never work with a doctor with so little understanding.
