Dr. David Paul Bliss, MD

My daughter was treated by Dr. Bliss for a bowel obstruction. Initially, she seemed to have done well through the surgery; however, on day 2, she suddenly became overcome with excruciating pain. He kept telling me she was fine and "it was too early for an infection." Almost 48 hours after the pain started, I called another physician and she recommended my child be taken back to surgery. The anesthesiologist looked at my daughter and told me she would likely not survive the procedure due to her condition. Once she was opened, they discovered she had 2000cc of feces in her abdominal cavity. Her bowel had leaked. She was admitted to PICU in gravely ill condition and suffered from many health issues for the next 2 months. At one point, she started pouring feces out of her abdominal incision and, again, Dr. Bliss tried to dismiss it. He said, "It is just a fistula, put a bag on it." I demanded another surgeon. He became angry (I was angrier). The new surgeon said she needed to be… taken back and, again, her bowel was leaking. Dr. Bliss told me her tissue was healthy and he didn't understand why she kept leaking; however, while they were getting her settled back in PICU, the anesthesiologist told me her intestines were literally like wet tissue paper and to expect more problems. I have been a health care professional for 28 years and I have NEVER encountered such an uncaring, dangerous surgeon as this man. Thankfully, I was able to find a different surgeon who has cleaned up the mess and has enabled my daughter to live.

We love Dr. Bliss! He was recommended to our family, and we would recommend him to anyone!

I took my 1 year old to see Dr. Bliss at the recommendation of his urologist. We were able to get an immediate appointment, which is always nice, but that was about the only good part of this visit. Dr. Bliss was quick to dismiss my concerns and did not listen to a word I said. His tone was very condescending throughout my visit. When he was pressing on my son's abdomen, my son was screaming and shaking. It took me and a nurse to hold him down yet Dr. Bliss kept saying that he was just mad, not in any pain. He told me he was not able to feel the lump that two previous doctors had felt and told me that there was nothing wrong. Even though he couldn't feel the lump, believed my son was not in pain and thought there to be nothing wrong, he still wanted to send us for an ultrasound. I asked about other testing options, as the previous ultrasound was excruciating for my son due to his tender abdomen. I was told that any other options were not acceptable and that "He may not like… it, but he'll just have to deal with it." Between my two children, they have had 4 surgeries and seen countless specialists in the last year. I have never felt the way I felt during this visit. I have never left an appointment in tears and I have never NOT returned to a doctor....until now. I will absolutely, under no condition be returning to Dr. Bliss.
