Dr. David Shane Buggay, MD

Dr. Buggay and his staff at OrthoSports St. Vincent’s are very compassionate and competent. After the 2023 new year, I arrived for an appointment I’d recently made to have my worsening leg pain checked out. My insurance had changed at the beginning of the year and I was told by the very sweet receptionist (I think her name is Keila) that I’d need a referral from my primary care doctor to see him. Y’all… I started BAWLING at the registration desk because I don’t have a primary care doctor (I know, I know.) I’d been in so much pain for so long and all I wanted were some answers and help. I was so embarrassed. Keila immediately went and spoke to someone in the back and I was able to see the doctor shortly thereafter, no referral required. Dr. Buggay first tried non-invasive options before recommending surgery for my issue, which changed my opinion of surgeons and how they seemingly always want to cut someone open without trying other methods. I eventually had to have surgery in May 2023… on my tibia and knee. The knee surgery was unexpected but during the tibia surgery, he discovered I had a torn knee ligament and fixed that as well. My post-op pain was treated very effectively. I only had two rough pain days and of course they were the two days immediately following the procedure. He and his PA (Valentin) listened to my concerns and were available to answer questions in between appointments. They also drew pictures, showed me my X-ray and MRI images, sent smoke signals… anything to make sure I truly understood what was going on with my body and how they planned to fix it. I’m now 7 weeks post op and Dr. Buggay has even started treating my other knee! Hopefully no surgery will needed on that one but I would choose him again if surgery is required. My quality of life has significantly improved because of his skilled treatment. I am very grateful. Dr. Buggay has operated on 3/4 of my family (shoulder replacement for my dad; hip replacement and knee replacement for my mom.) I highly recommend him. He is an absolute unicorn doctor. ??

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Buggay for many years. He has NEVER been short, hurried or in a bad mood. He takes time with and care of his patients. He is thorough in examination and testing. The results are always addressed quickly. He has performed both knee replacements, cervical spine surgery, carpal tunnel surgery, and treated a broken ankle. I highly recommend him in his general and specialty areas of treatment. He’s a rare find in a doctor!

This was a wonderful. warm, caring doctor. I only had to wait a few minutes to see him, and it was one of the best experiences ever. I wish every doctor was like Dr. Buggay.
