Dr. David J Columbus, DO

By placing Verti-flex (now Superion) spacers through a small incision into the L-3 and L-4 region of my lower back, this fine surgeon relieved tremendous stenosis of my spine, and has given back my ability to stand and walk more comfortably than I have for fifteen years. Simply put, David Columbus, D.O., has changed my life. Since there aren't enough stars to fairly assess this physician's superlative care, I must also state there are no words which adequately describe his innovative attention to detail, or his well-informed and excellent choice of a life-altering surgical procedure. I am happy to have Dr Columbus and his staff as part of my care team for pain management. I have refused heavy duty pain meds and narcotics to manage my pain because they interfere with other meds I take. Dr Columbus AND his staff listened, and not only to this concern, but also to others that I have. They have been very friendly in every aspect of my treatment plan from scheduling through to procedure and follow-up. I have anxiety issues that makes it difficult for me to deal with others, but because of the atmosphere and welcoming attitudes of this doctor and his staff I feel more successful than ever in managing my back pain. When in need of an appointment it generally takes less than one week and most often only a few days to get into the office, after which i have been successful in getting into the surgery center within 2 weeks, (although I will say this, IF my schedule would allow appointments at anytime of the day i could probably get in quicker, but i must have late afternoon… appointments). When calling during office hours most of my questions have been answered with one call, however, there have been a few times that i did have to leave a message which is promptly returned. I have been under the care of Dr. Columbus and Kim for almost 2 years now and am so thankful to have found him after several other failed attempts with other doctors, most of whom do not listen or want to just solve pain with addictive medications. I do enjoy Dr Columbus' sense of humor and Kim's ability to be very thorough with any question I throw at her adds so much comfort.

I have been seeing this Dr. for about 6 months now. The MA's say they will return phone calls within a day and they don't return them at all. I have asked repeatedly to speak to Columbus or his PA on the phone, being told they will make a note and I still don't hear back. The PA is ALWAYS late, she is known for this by the staff. At my last appointment, she was already 45 minutes late at 9:00 a.m.? How do you get that far behind that early in the day? I'm expected to show up 15 minutes early but they can make me wait over an hour after my scheduled appointment. My time is just a valuable is theirs, even though I don't have MD or PA after my name. My PCP has even stated that this Pain Management Doctor will not prescribe pain meds. I have been to doctors who just throw you on a bunch of crap and I appreciate that Columbus doesn't do that, but he won't give you anything, even when recovering from surgery. If you can't get help for your pain from your Pain Dr., who are you supposed… to turn to? I am in pain and stuck with no one to help me. This is a hopeless and terrible place to be. Not all of us are drug addicts or pill seekers, some of us actually suffer from real pain that significantly impairs our quality of life. It would be nice to find a doctor interested in helping me to improve that quality of life. I know I am not the only patient who has these feelings as it was discussed in the waiting room as we all waited and waited to be called back. Other patients have the same concerns but where else do we turn?

I've been seeing Dr.Columbus for 7+years now,I was referred to him by my Primary Doc.for chronic pain. Before him I had seen a slew of Docs for pain& all they did was shove pills at me,tell me I need mental therapy,and basically it was all in my head. Dr.C actually took the time to read my ever growing file,get to know me, and assure me that in fact, I was not crazy,I really had problems. He started working with me to figure out what would work best for me& not just by shoving a bunch of meds at me,he gave me meds that actually did there job& made it so I went from 20 different pills to 9! That's huge, especially if your in your younger years and want your organs to still work when your 65. I went from being in bed 3 weeks outta the month, to needing to lay in bed now and than, and it's not always all day. Don't get me wrong,I still have problems and I still halfta sit around or lay in bed from time to time, but that's just because of the issues I have, not because of anything he has… done or hasn't. He does what he can for me& it would be that way if I went to someone in Nebraska. I will be forever greatful for his treatments,his care,the staff he has and his ability to make you smile even when your in severe pain, and more importantly, treating me like a person.

I have seen Dr. Columbus twice, first in 2014 for facet joint syndrome, which he treated effectively with injections, and just recently in 2017 August for a follow-up on L hip and hamstring pain, which had been successfully treated with oral steroids. I will use this doctor again, very happy with him and his frank, open manner.

Excellent Dr! Good communication skills, humorous. Did a wonderful job of dealing with my pain issues.

Dr. Columbus was the most rude, un compassionate Doctor. I would NEVER GO TO HIM!

I have a tarlov Cyst when i went back for follow-up of MRI i let you say everything you had to say. When i asked about my cysts you said its not there and it must of went away they do that. I new right then you did not know about the tarlov cyst Disease. They don't just go away. I have bowl problems, UTI problems, headaches, hip problems, sitting problems, leg pain, sciatic pain feet pain. Standing, walking cronic everyday. I explained all of that to you when i was talking to you i felt like you didn't care you even started walking out of the room when we were stll talking, first visit and second visit. Your cure all was injections......you never asked if i had any questions or concerns. I would say we were in the room maybe 7 min. For you to say my cysts was gone and you had no idea was wrong. You should educate yourself on the disease.
