Dr. David Frank Dies, MD

This physician can hang with the finest gastrointestinal specialists in the country-including the professors who teach this field. He is also a specialist in Hepatology which makes one realize he has three(3) specialties. A very smart physician! Great bedside manner!

I am being treated by Dr dies for this stupid hep c I have seen a assistant doctor one time yes one time in 6 months I take the medication it causes horrible side effects when called ask for something relieve my headaches and nausea was basically treat like drug addict I do not need narcotics I need relief this is why people have opinion about bealthcare professionals they jump to assuming I don't wish this treatment on anyone oh he is calling something in but guess what I don't want it keep it I pray this cures me but other than that I am done with this Dr snd practice

Okay. I am a patient. I almost didn't write this review but decided to go ahead. Let me start by saying that dr dies is a physician renowned for saving lives. In a life or death situation you are blessed to be under his care. I can see how his cut and dry demeanor could be mistaken as a lack of compassion but I truly don't think that's the case. The only complaint is that with some treatments they can be brutal. I'm specifically speaking of the new hep c treatments. He does not write for comfort meds and I realize addiction is a concern but there is a time and a place. Sometimes Advil just won't cut it. Other than that I'm sticking it out w dr dies!

When I review these sites, on almost ANY doctor, I find more malcontents than those that are thankful. I think that more likely represents the fact that those that complain are more likely to leave a review than those that are satisfied. Also, most that complain are not likely satisfied by any doctor, or most other areas in their life. Further, to criticize a man's religious greeting is rather revealing about a person. In summary, I know that this physician has donated a great deal of his time to a variety of community medical efforts without reimbursement, a testimony to his dedication and compassion. He is compassionate and as a health care professional myself, I have found that he is one of the hardest working physicians that I know.

I recently read a review of "misdiagnosed" on Oct, 2011 and saw a response from Dr. Dies on April, 2013. I don't usually participate in reviews except to rate someone but felt I must rise to the occasion. I can only hope "misdiagnosed" will forgive. I am so sorry you had this type of experience. I had a far different one with this doctor, I have been a patient of his for about 12 yrs. when I was 52 yrs. old I had my first colonoscopy. I was told by an E.R. doc that if I didn't promise to have one on an out -pt. basis he would have me admitted to the hospital and he would order one there, I chose out-pt, it was not something I would have done on my own as to my knowledge there was no history of colon CA in my family. Dr. Dies found an adenocarcinoma in my colon. off I was to have a colon resection and a colonoscopy every yr. for 10 yrs. no chemo, no radiation, no treatment at all. all because it was found in the very early stage. so you see, he is my "hero". who knows when it would… have been found, I said all that to say, even doctors can make a mistake. being a nurse I realize that people in the medical profession are held to a higher moral and ethical standard than in most professions. I lost my mother to kidney CA that was misdiagnosed for a yr. as "low back pain". she had extremely competent doctors on her side. so it does happen, I can assure you, from my experience, he does care a great deal for his pts. I would highly recommend Dr. Dies to anyone who wants a caring and knowledgeable physician, and please try to remember, we in the medical field are on your side. so in my experience Dr. Dies rocks! as evidenced in his response. thanks for listening...

My mom was a patient of this doctor. My opinion of him, based on her experience, is that he is rude, uncaring and lacking empathy. For a doctor in his field, I just don't understand. Maybe there was not much he could do, but a little communication and caring would have gone a long way. Fortunately, she had other doctors who were there for her and her family. We received a note today from his office reminding her of a scheduled follow-up appointment; she passed away this week.

Rather than defend above, I used it as an opportunity for education. HAE occurs in 1 in 50,000 patients. I have correctly diagnosed it in 2 patients and I do not have 50,000 patients. I have asked every other gastroenterologist in this city and none have made the diagnosis. It appears that I did not make the diagnosis in this patient and for that I have deep regret. Doctors are not perfect, but it is not due to "ego" but rather because incredibly rare diseases are.........incredibly difficult to diagnose. This disease is very hard to diagnose, even if you suspect the patient has it as all tests can be normal. We do not have a good test to nail down the diagnosis (see www.medscape.com). In the end, I am humble enough to be thankful whenever a diagnosis is made, even if I am not the one to make it. Rather than be bitter about this negative review, I plan to use it as an opportunity to review the medical literature about the diagnosis and be better prepared to diagnose it next… time! I was under the care of Dr. Dies for two years for abdominal pain, vomiting and swelling. He continued to just admit me to local hospital and treat symptoms of incorrect diagnosis, and had my gallbladder removed which was not needed. He then refused my transport by ambulance, saying "it was all in my head" to his hospital and my primary physician made a crucial decision and had me transported to a Dallas hospital. There it took the team of doctors two days to find my diagnosis, which was a rare genetic blood disease called Hereditary Angioedema. (please google). Dr. Dies, being in the scope of practice that he is in, should be aware of this disease and to check patients for it, as it is a very debilating disease. I suffered terribly for those two years, and could have died thanks to his ego. He, along with his staff should be more informed of this disease "HAE" as I am sure there are others that have it. He appears to be a "nice, God Bless You" doctor, but be aware. He literally robbed… my life of two years and a gallbladder. Thank you to all the non-ego doctors out there who really care about their patients and take the time to research. Patient care - is that not why one becomes a doctor, so sad for those who let their ego take over, for then the patients suffer.
