Dr. David Carl Eckel, MD

I saw Dr. Eckel for the first time today, and would highly recommend him. My wait was less than 10 minutes. He was very knowledgeable, and patiently answered all of my questions. His assistant was also very courteous and professional, as was the lady at the front desk. .

I have been going to see Dr. Eckel for various ailments over the past 10 years and also have brought my 9 year old in. Dr. Eckel is direct and gets the job done fast and effectively. I reccommend him to all of my friends.

I went to Dr. Eckels ER center for upper respiratory distress and general weakness. I thought I might have pneumonia. My cough was almost constant and my chest pain had gotten awful every time I coughed because of muscle strain. I was weak and ill. At the ageof 79, I worried about pneumonia because Id had a history of it. Lots of people my age die from it. Dr. Eckels acted vague and peculiar from the moment I met him in the exam room. I thought he might be a physicians assistant. He asked peculiar diagnostic questions and missed some vital symptoms. He gave me a doctors sample of an ear medicine that he said was an amazing drug and I could have it free. Ear medicine? Whats going on here?I left with prescriptions that seemed odd and notes made by Dr. Eckel. They were scribbled and made no sense. There was no follow-up. When I drove away from his clinic, my experience with my own and other peoples behavior while using drugs told me, This man is ON DRUGS.36 hours latee I had to be… driven to Shands ER because of weakness, dehydration, and constant coughing related toguess what? PNEUMONIA (diagnosed on x-rays). I was hospitalized for 4 days with the illness and problems related to extended dehydration. A couple of months later, an AA friend told me he saw Dr. Eckel at an AA meeting. Since then, he has apparently become involved in a recovery program for addicted physicians. I am a former drug addict and alcoholic abuser myself, with over 10 years of clean time in AA and NA. Ive seen addicts when theyre using. I remember what I was like when I was using. All I can say is, Dr. Eckel was high as a kite the day I say him. He may now be enjoying wonderful substance abuse recovery, but I wouldnt consult him until hes had at least 3 years of clean time under his belt. Recovery is shaky for most addicts, and many go out again when the stress gets too great or the temptation too strong. Im not a physicianand Im glad, if only for the fact that my 79-year-old life is organized so that mood-altering drugs would be very hard to get.

They don't do specialties, but for the usual coughing, sneezing, fever, school and sports physicals they are fast and affordable.

I just want to say that Emergency Medical Center is a great clinic; the doctors and staff are all really professional and the level of care is top-notch.

If you really need a doctor quick, walk-in clinics are great. But I really did not appreciate the doctor resorting to scare tactics to prompt me to follow up with my condition. He actually said I might have to get a new career due to me injury! And my spouse accompanied me for moral support, but he did not even make eye contact. No reason to be so brusque, Dr. Eckel!
