David A. Fishbain, M.D., F.A.P.A., is Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and Adjunct Professor of Neurological Surgery and Anesthesiology at the University of Miami School of Medicine and The Rosomoff Comprehensive Pain and Rehabilitation Center in Miami, Florida.

A graduate of the University of Ottawa School of Medicine in Canada, Dr. Fishbain also holds a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree in Microbiology from the University of Ottawa School of Science. He completed his internship in Medicine at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana, and his residency in Psychiatry at the University of Miami School of Medicine. Dr. Fishbain is triple boarded. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, with added qualifications in Geriatric Psychiatry and Pain Management. Dr. Fishbain was honored as a Distinguished Fellow by the American Psychiatric Association in 2003.

Dr. Fishbain has developed a national and international reputation. He is the author of 223 publications (journal articles, letters to the editor, and book chapters) and 152 published abstracts. Most of these publications relate to chronic pain evaluation, treatment, and outcome. Dr. Fishbain also has been active in organized pain medicine and has been named to a number of committees within the American Academy of Pain Medicine (AAPM). He is currently on the editorial boards of the Journal of Pharmaceutical Care in Pain and Symptom Control, Medical Disability Advisor, and the Journal of Opioid Management. He has served on the editorial boards of The Clinical Journal of Pain, the American Pain Society Bulletin, and the American Academy of Pain Medicine Newsletter. He has also been Regional Editor for The Pain Medicine Network Newsletter and is now Senior Editor of Pain Medicine as well as an editor for Cochrane Reviews. He is the psychiatric editor for Current Pain and Headache Reports and Pain Medicine News. Dr. Fishbain has been the Chair of the American Pain Society (APS) Scientific Program Committee for the 1993 APS meeting and the new research chair for the AAPM 2000 meeting and has served on the Florida Pain Management Commission.
