I tend to take reviews for psychiatrists with a grain of salt. For this reason I resumed treatment with Dr. Fogelson after seeing someone else for a few years, despite Fogelson’s many recent poor reviews, and can confirm that he is in fact now cold, disrespectful, and a terrible listener. His services wouldn’t be worth it at a fraction of the price, either. Steer clear and find a psychiatrist who is more capable of empathy

Dr.Fogelson works in the same office as my psychiatrist. One night I was having a breakdown and called their on-call psychiatry service. Fogelson was the "Dr" on call, and hung up on me mid-sentence. I was not being rude. His medication advice was also terrible. I told my psychiatrist and therapist about the situation. My psychiatrist told me Dr.F has a bad bedside manner and my therapist told me a lot of people have complained about him to her and she's not surprised he hung up on me because he is not a good doctor. Steer clear, guys.

My psychiatrist says Dr.F does not have good bed-side manner and my therapist said she's heard a ton of people say bad stuff about him and she's not surprised he hung up on me because he's not a good doctor.

Fortunately, I only went a couple of times. He seemed pretty clueless about how to help. The best people in this field are more than medication dispensers. They have empathy and understand people on an intuitive level. Oh, and their motivation is to help, not to get rich.

If you expect talk therapy, you're at the wrong place. If you're looking for a biological/drug prescribing approach, he's a good choice. Some complained that he doesn't listen. Not true. He's often writing down notes as he listens. But he definitely hears what you're saying and takes it into account. Some reviewers complained that he lacks empathy or compassion. Not my experience. What do you expect him to do or say? Again, this is not talk therapy. He's trying to diagnose and adjust meds. That's what he's listening for. Is he arrogant? I've been seeing him for almost 3 years and I've never seen a sign of arrogance. I think he's a bit socially awkward. And I think he charges too much. But some of the reviews here sound like they're talking about a different man than I know. He's imperfect, for sure, but he has a lot of good qualities both personally and professionally. I'd recommend him. He knows what he's doing when it comes to using meds.

I saw Dr. Fogelson in the 80's. I was referred to him by Kaiser Permanente when they could not figure out what my diagnosis was. Dr. Fogelson was the first doctor to figure out it was OCD. He at the time was one of the first OCD specialist but later on it seemed that he did not specialize in OCD anymore. I am very appreciative that he had the knowledge at that time when very few doctors did to recognize OCD. I couldn't believe I had an illnes that anyone else had, I thought I was the only one. He ran a OCD support group on Saturdays. The group was not that expensive and I thought he did at times show he had a compassionate side.

He didn't listen well, was a bit condescending and didn't seem to care much. He costs more than anyone else and has less empathy. I'm sorry I went.

They don't disclose everything. Fogelson got $110,127 in fees for @ 2 years. He was arrogant and dismissive with us and our son. Really pushed the medication and didn't care about personal history. Wouldn't go to him for a scraped because he would probably prescribe an anti-psychotic.

Arrogant. Doesn't LISTEN to the patient. He has a very prejudicial attitude about what medications work, how they work and when you don't have the intended response he is dismissive of your experience. He does not seem to believe that the patient knows their body and mind and that the patient's concerns about medications are valid. He is a pill-pusher and doesn't offer the patient any hope that it is possible to address and conquer one's depression. He is highly over rated and has a huge chip on his shoulder. Don't go to this doctor if you are seeking compassionate and skillful care. He made me so ill I missed 4 weeks of work, because he dismissed me when I told him I'd tried a particular medication in the past with very negative results. DO NOT GO TO THIS DOCTOR! His reputation is not deserved.
