Summary

Dr. Gold is a Colorado native who has spent most of his years in the Denver area. Along with a degree in biology from Colorado University, he was one of the first graduates of the University Of Colorado School Of Dentistry. From there, he was accepted at St. Louis University for the orthodontic residency. Upon his return to Denver he worked in the mentor’s practice for a year before opening his own practice. He also was an associate professor of orthodontics at the Colorado University Dental School. In addition, he spent several years teaching oral surgery residents at Denver Health and Hospital.
Children have always been Dr. Gold’s passion. “My specialty is children,” he says. Care and concern are demonstrated by all the members of the “the team” starting with Tammy, who greets you at the front desk, to Shannon, who preps you to see the orthodontist. And of course there is Dr. Gold himself, a man who greets parents and patients alike with a smile as large as his personality.
The focus of the entire team is to make sure all who visit their office feel comfortable. They take careful measures with each patient to accomplish this goal, whether it requires an extra-special smile, a few soothing words, or sharing with them exactly what the dentist is going to do through a demonstration of the equipment. What child isn’t delighted with the opportunity to examine gorilla teeth, one of the many tools used to explain the scary world of dentistry to a young patient?
There is also Gold’s Corner, which is set up like a mini museum where young patients can explore. Filled with rocks, meteorites, stalactites, and fossils, it provides a glimpse into another side of Dr. Gold, one that he loves to discuss with others interested in the subject.
A firm believer in introducing a child to dental visits starting at around age 2, a lot of Dr. Gold’s patients have been with him from early childhood until they go to college – the result of a relationship built on trust and education. His approach to helping children feel comfortable in his care and belief that having them involved with the initial consultation helps establish this bond.
Dr. Gold believes education of the parents is essential for a child to maintain good oral hygiene. No matter how much you strive to teach a child the correct way to maintain their teeth and gums, without the parents’ support, the program outlined for each individual won’t be as successful, he says. Teaching parents the importance of bedtime hygiene is as critical – if not more so – as sharing the information with the child. Brushing young teeth should be one of the last events before a child climbs into bed. Even nursing mothers need to be aware of the need to brush. Dr. Gold shares, “A lot of times you’ll see a 2-year-old with cavities in the front which tells me the mother is nursing and putting the child to bed right away.” It seems there is a lot of sugar in mother’s milk, which can cause damage to young mouths.
A busy dental practice may not always make the time to share this sort of information, but it is those details that can make the difference in good oral health. This can affect an individual’s overall health through their childhood years and into their adulthood. Dr. Gold states.
When it comes to orthodontic issues and problems, anyone with a dental degree can treat them, “Dr. Gold says, but he recommends a specialist. General dentists don’t have the true experience to tackle some issues. If you notice your child has crocked teeth, crowding out of line, spaces between the teeth, irregular spacing, upper protrusion, or jaw cracking (TMJ), a trip to an orthodontist in order. There they will be assessed and a treatment plan will be recommended to address their individual problem.
To make sure services are affordable. Dr. Gold says, he offers free initial examinations and recalls. Most insurance plans are accepted, and the office staff fills out all of the paperwork involved, saving parents the frustration of e
