Dr. David R. Heiman, MD

My experience with Dr. Heiman was appalling and deeply upsetting. From the moment he walked into the room, he was cold, dismissive, and condescending. I was admitted specifically to be evaluated by him, and yet he treated me as though I was an inconvenience rather than a patient in need of care. He displayed zero empathy, no urgency, and made no genuine attempt to understand or diagnose my condition. What’s worse, he had the audacity to suggest that my previously diagnosed diverticulitis symptoms were a “myth,” completely disregarding my medical history and concerns. His behavior was not only unprofessional, it was offensive. It’s alarming that someone with such a lack of compassion and clinical respect is employed by BayCare / St. Joseph’s Hospital. My family and I are both outraged and disappointed. Patients deserve to be treated with dignity, listened to, and taken seriously—Dr. Heiman did none of those things. He should not be in a position of care.

Rude, condescending.. didn’t listen - awful. Run far away.

My husband was seen by Dr. Heiman and Tampa General Hospital while in severe gastro distress. Throwing up for 2 days followed by extreme stomach pain that could not be alliviated by any medicine. Dr. Heiman was in a complete hurry to get in and out within a couple minutes and had no interest in my husbands distress or case. Would not scope because said he didn't have an ulcer so there was no point... while all other attending Drs. and nurses disagreed as there are many other reasons to scope. He ordered my husband's discharge and now we can not get in to see another Gastro for a month! Meanwhile my husband is suffering from some unknown issue. This doctor is what we all have come to accept from the medical field... no concern... just wants to get in and out and get paid.

If I could give 0 stars, I would. Dr Heiman is arrogant, disrespectful and incompetent. I had gone to him a few times regarding finding a diagnosis for what I had been experiencing for MONTHS. At first he seemed helpful but once the tests started coming back negative (and it wasn’t an easy diagnosis for him), he became unbearable to work with. During my last visit, I’m sitting in my chair, extremely underweight from all of the stomach symptoms I’d been experiencing since Jan. - when we (my mother and I) started asking questions about the plan of action/ sharing my past medical history, etc, Heiman became extremely irritable (not sure why as this is his JOB) and hovered over my mother and I, being extremely rude and dismissive. He was basically scolding us the whole time for being worried. At the end, he literally tried to have me go and do two tests I had done TWO DAYS PRIOR- he HAD the results. He was either blind when he reviewed my charts or didn’t look at all. Considering his… attitude in this, I’d expect the latter. When we realized what he had done (again we were extremely uncomfortable with him once he started yelling at us so we weren’t thinking clearly), we told the nurse checking us out. When she told Heiman about how he ordered the same tests I had completed two days prior (keep in mind that Heiman was just around the corner in his office so we could hear everything), Heiman rudely kept saying out loud “did she actually do it? Call the labs to confirm” etc. He made me feel so dumb and belittled- it’s not like I had done these tests weeks prior and maybe wasn’t remembering right - literally completed them two days prior to seeing him. I left in tears because of his behavior and lack of bedside manner. The only good thing about that office are the nurses/lovely ladies who work at the front desk. We were extremely lucky that one nurse noticed his treatment (apologized for it since he sure wasn’t going to) toward us and made it her mission to keep pushing him to look at my charts, order the right tears, etc. Finally we were approved for a CT scan (after asking several times to proceed with the next step instead of waiting to get unbearably sick again. Did he not realize I was having this happen for half of a year? I couldn’t keep waiting for the next episode to occur. I was skin and bones and falling apart.) I’m happy to say that after going to different doctors/specialists (that actually know how to do their jobs), we found the problem and I had surgery yesterday. Guess it wasn’t all in my head after all, Heiman? Best of luck with your superb bedside manner. A disclaimer to anyone reading this and wondering if they should see Heiman- I almost never leave reviews. I wrote this all out because I’d hate for someone else to go through what I did. If Heiman was competent, I could have had answers months ago and not gotten to the point where I felt like I had no quality in life because of the constant “sickness” I was going through. I see he has some higher rated stars. Sure I’m sure some of those are legitimate but I can guess that these were easy cases for Heiman. I liked him at first too, until he became very clearly annoyed with my case and essentially refused to push forward in strategic ways. His “help” was to just keep waiting. I hope this may help someone with making the right decisions when going to see a specialist- someone who is supposed to be there to HELP you. I’m lucky that I found amazing Drs recently- ones that listened to my concerns and ordered different test right away. Less than a week later, I had my surgery ?? Best of luck to anyone having ongoing medical problems- I know it’s rough which is why finding the RIGHT Drs is so important

I chose this doctor because he was close to my house and had pretty good reviews. I am now doubting if those reviews are real. I find the doctor to be arrogant and uncomfortable to be around. He always makes strange comments on my clothing or the book I have with me that border on insults and waste my time. However the real reason I stopped seeing him is that he constantly interrupts me. I don't feel that he even listens. I have been having serious abdominal pain. He had no answer for me and basically told me not to worry about it. He likes to talk, but not in a friendly way. I truly feel that he does not care about his patients. At least that has been my experience. If you are dealing with a serious and sometimes embarrassing condition, I do not recommend him. Sorry to his staff. They always seem pretty nice.
